There's plenty to like about the Acer Aspire 3935, which makes its deficiencies all the more disappointing. For the money it delivers solid performance (in applications) and good battery life, too, but the lack of HDMI and an optical drive make it an awkward proposition to recommend. Still, while it misses out on a recommendation, if it fits your needs it's worth considering.

Acer keeps up with the Joneses when it comes to the portable PC market, having recently launched its Aspire One range as a competitor in the netbook arena. Meanwhile, the company's large to middle sized array of TravelMate and Aspire models continues apace and the Aspire 3935 is designed as a direct challenge to 13.3-inch heavyweights such as the HP Pavilion dv3 and the MacBook Air. The Aspire 3935 is an attractive, lightweight and efficient notebook that should be worth serious consideration by PC users on the move for its friendly keyboard, powerful CPU and compactly practical utilities, all for under £900.

  The Aspire 3935 isn't the only machine to stake a claim as an affordable alternative to 13.3-inch glamor candies like the MacBook Air and Dell Adamo. But it comes in $100 to $200 below such contenders as the IdeaPad U330 and Dell Studio XPS 13, and more than a pound below the Gateway UC7807 we reviewed in April, with an exceptional screen and keyboard plus decent battery life. If we went shopping for a 13.3-inch notebook today, this is the one we'd pick.

It's easy enough to find a thin, sexy 13-inch laptop, such as the Dell Adamo or Apple MacBook. Finding one for less than $1,000 is a little tougher, as the base model aluminum MacBook starts at $1,299 (yes, there's a $999 plastic model, too), and HP's recent Pavilion dv3 is certainly inexpensive, but it's not particularly petite (and, until very recently, was only available with an AMD CPU). Thin, sexy 13-inch laptops are reasonably common, but the Acer Aspire 3935 is one of the slickest available for less than $1,000.

Acer has been delivering affordable systems for as long as it has existed, but the majority of them have come with design trade-offs. Often they were too thick or too heavy, or just plain ugly. The Acer Aspire 3935 (6504) ushers in what hopefully will be a new era for the company. Forget the fact that it's a $900 laptop, because Acer is widely known for being a price aggressor. The Acer Aspire's 3935 (6504) sleek metallic cover, the 1-inch-thick chassis, and the sheer portability of this system are attributes that customers have been yearning for but hadn't been able to get in such a sweet deal.

Acer’s latest 13-inch notebook sports a slim design, comfy keyboard, and good performance at an attractive price. A 13-inch notebook that’s this thin and light typically costs a grand or more, so for $899, the Aspire 3935-6504 represents one heck of a bargain. You get adequate performance for running Vista and a more stylish and svelte design than the entry-level MacBook. While both the HP Pavilion dv3z ($1,043 as tested, starting at $679) and the Dell Studio XPS 13 ($1,354 as tested, starting at $1,099) both offer better graphics performance, it comes at the expense of lower battery life than the Aspire 3935. The only real negatives with this system are the lack of HDMI, eSATA, and ExpressCard. Add in a sharp display, very good speakers, and helpful features like a one-touch backup button, and the Acer Aspire 3935 is an excellent choice for students and mobile professionals alike.

The Acer Aspire 3935-6504 represents the latest addition to Acer’s popular Aspire line of laptops. Affordably priced ($899.99) and designed for easy travel, this slender 13-inch system offers a nice selection of user-friendly features, such as a one-touch backup button, a bright display, and a full-size keyboard. It’s missing a few ports found on other 13-inch models, however, and its graphics performance is less than stellar. This Aspire is an attractive 13-inch thin-and-light with an equally eye-catching price. It has a bright LED-backlit display, a full-size keyboard, and convenient backup, but its integrated graphics will disappoint the 3D crowd.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: GM45 çipsetine (Montevina) kurulmuş, onboard (paylaşımlı) grafik kartı. 2 adet daha fazla shadera sahip olması ve daha yüksek saat hızından ötürü GMA X3100 den oldukça hızlı. Yinede oyuncular için (DirectX 10 oyunları oynanamaz, oynansa bile çok düşük detaylarda) önerilebilir olduğu söylenemez. Dahili video işlemcisi, düşük hızlı işlemcilere HD video decode (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2) işlemleri sırasında yardımcı olarak Blu-Ray medyaların akıcı şekilde oynatılmasını sağlıyor.

Çok seçici olmayan oyunlar akıcı olarak oynanabilir. Ama düşük çözünürlüğe ve dolayısıyla düşük detaylara hazır olun. Yine de bu kartlar ofis ve video görüntüleme (HD Videolar içinde uygun olduğu söylenebilir) konularında yeterli performansı veriyor.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Daha fazla tüketime ihtiyaç duymayan ve daha uzun aktarım hatlarına sahip Core Duo ve Core Solo işlemcilerin yeni nesli. Core Duo dizanynına ek olarak 4. bir decoder, güçlendirilmiş SSE unitesi ve ek Aritmetik mantık ünitesi ( ALU ) mevcut.

Core 2 Duo Laptop işlemcileri masa üstü işlemcilerle benzer. Sadece daha düşük voltaj ile çalışmakta (0.95 Volt - 1188 Volt) ve daha düşük frontside bus saat hızına sahip (1066 MHz karşı 667 MHz).
