On the whole, the M17X is a great notebook to have if you want something that's purely built for entertainment - whether it's for watching movies or games. It is a pretty beefy machine with the muscles to handle the latest games and it has great sounding speakers to boot. Its powerful processor also allows it to multitask very well and run apps such as Photoshop with aplomb too. However, on the downside, it is very bulky making it more of a desktop replacement than a portable gaming notebook.

The downside is that this is an extremely large and very heavy laptop that dwarves most 17-inch laptops, even gaming specific ones.

There's no doubting that the Alienware M17x is a striking piece of design and one that we actually came to like. It’s the best Alienware machine we’ve seen for ages in terms of looks and build quality, brilliantly combining the solidity of outdoor latrines with sci-fi set-design.

However, this isn't quite enough to distract from its main problem - the fact that, as a gaming laptop, it's firmly wedged between a rock and a hard place. Its bulk means that it's not suitable for transport and, if you spent two grand on a desktop machine instead, it’d be at least twice as powerful and certainly much more upgradable.

Over all I am very pleased with this laptop, It looks sleek, and performs like a desktop. The weight is going to be fun with all my travels, but thats a price I am ready to pay to have a Sweet gaming laptop. Price was $$$$ but no worse than a nicely configured Precision M6400, but the GPU options put this laptop ahead of anything else. upgrades to a QX9300 will be the next item on my list to do. When the 4 GB DIMMS drop to a more reasonable price, a 8 GB Config could be in the works.

The M17x has an effective cooling system that kept it cool during our testing, and we liked the AlienFX lighting system and different case color options. The switchable graphics are handy and equates to good battery life (2:15). Our biggest issue with this machine is the subpar screen, which is out of place on a machine of this caliber. Other than the screen we found it difficult to fault the M17x and give it our recommendation.

This is a product with a very specific market niche, no doubt about that. The majority of people would hate its tacky keyboard, large dimensions, chubby looks and weight, but this is hardly the idea behind this model anyway. Notebooks such as these are made for the lucky few that will be able to appreciate every detail on it, and make the best of the hardware that they’re packing. It’s for these reasons that the final price of Alienware models amounts to more than just the sum of its parts, but that’s the case with all their other aspects as well, which manages to keep the price in the background. Those that opt for Alienware notebooks are passionate gamers that want more than a mere gaming machine and are ready to pay for that. Simply put, these are “aliens” that look for unique characteristics in a PC and are willing to spend hours in seemingly pointless activities such as creating profiles and setting all those separate colour and brightness levels for the keyboard and the surrounding elements, even if most of those remains unused. What other rig has multicolored backlighting and can wirelessly stream Blu-ray movies and games--in full HD--to your TV? The heat on the underside is an issue, but that's just about the only thing we don't like about the M17x. While $3,300 is a lot to pay, you're getting more than twice as much laptop as the next most powerful machine we've tested. It doesn't get any better than this.

Alienware: Alienware, Dell’in sahip olduğu amerikalı bir hardware şirketidir ve genel olarak yüksek performanslı oyun cihazları üretir. Alienware aynı zamanda notebooklar için kulaklık, mouse, klavye ve monitörlerde üretmektedir. Alienware 1996 yılında kurulmuş olup, Florida da mevkilenmiştir. Alienware, Avrupa yönetim merkezini İrlanda da 2002 yılında açmıştır. 2005 yılında Alienware 170 milyon dolarlık bir satış hacmine ulaşmıştır. 2003 yılında ise uluslararası varlığını pekiştirmek için Avusturalya, Kanada, Fransa, Almanya, İngiltere ve Costa Rica da faaliyetlere başlamıştır. Uluslararası pazar payı sınırlıdır.

Alienware İnceleme

Şu anki yüksek kalite masa üstü ekran kartları ile (7900 veya X1900 gibi) kıyaslanılabilirler. Hemen hemen aynı çekirdeğe sahip olsalarda, clock hızları farklı olduğu için biraz yavaş kaldıkları aşikar. Yeni oyunlar ( F.E.A.R., Company of Heroes gibi) yüksek çözünürlük ve full detaylarda çalışacaktır.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280M SLI:

GeForce GTX 280M, G92b çipi üzerine 128 pipeline ile oluşturulmuş olduğu için masa üstü 9800 GTX ile benzerlikler göstermekte. Daha fazla pipeline ve yüksek saat hızından ötürü ise 9800M GTX’e gore daha hızlı.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870 X2:

İki Mobility Radeon HD 4870 kartın Crossfire modu ile (SLI ile benzer) bağlanmasından oluşmakta. Güç tüketini iki katına çıkarsada performans artışı (oyunun desteklemesi ve sürücü ayarlarına gore) 0 ile %50 arasında gerçekleşmekte.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870: Üst sınıf DirectX 11 grafik kartı. Masaüstü HD5770 üzerine kurulmuş. 128 Bitlik bellek yüzünden sadece GDDR5 bellek ile çok hızlı.

4.3 kg:

Sınıfınınfen hafif subnotebooklarından biri ve taşınması gerçekten çok kolay. Bu hafiflikte bir laptop bulmaktan gerçekten çok zor. 7 – 9 inç ekran boyutu bu sınıf için ideal.

5.75 kg:

Bu laptop diğer laptoplara oranla ağır. Özellikle 19 inçlik ekrana sahip masa üstü değişim laptopları bu sınıfa girmekte. Bu sınıf 17 inçlik masa üstü değişim laptoplarına oranla bile çok ağır.
