If you want to blow away zombies but you’re not one of the beneficiaries of a trust fund or Wall Street bonus, you’ll find that the $1,499 G51J-A1 is every bit as capable as top-end rigs. The Alienware M15x offers slightly better performance and cool extras like customizable lighting, but it costs $1,874 when similarly configured to the G51J-A1. In other words, this rig is a killer value.

All in all, the G51J-A1 is great at being itself, but not so great at being your "do-it-all" 15" notebook. The keyboard is just too lackluster to be used for daily typing chores, note taking, etc., and the battery is too poor to use on the road for any real length of time. It's a portable gaming rig in a form factor that's smaller than those gigantic 17" and 18.4" machines out there and that's about it.

Offering more portability than its desktop-replacement brethren, the Asus G51J-A1 delivers good productivity performance, but its gaming performance is subpar.

Although the Acer Aspire 5738DG-6165 earned the distinction of being the first 3D laptop to hit the market, its visual effects ended up being more gimmick than substance. If you're a "3D" fanatic, the ASUS G51J-1B 3D has the best technology in place, but it's limited to games and costly compared to Acer's 3D laptop.

As far as 3D goes, the Asus G51J 3D is certainly a more capable machine than Acer’s 5738DZG. Not only is it more powerful, but with the active glasses it can also deliver a better 3D experience. While we would’ve liked a higher-resolution screen—and higher frame rates—this rig is more than capable of playing the latest titles. At $1,699, it’s $200 more expensive than the non-3D version, but that premium is reasonable considering the newness of the technology. Acer’s $779 Aspire 5738DG does a better job of bringing 2D movies into the third dimension, but Nvidia’s 3D technology is more effective, and provides better viewing angles with the included glasses. If you’re a gamer, the G51J 3D is definitely worth a look.

Ultimately this is a great laptop, and kudos to Asus for being the first out the gates with a nVidia 3D Vision laptop. That the technology works well given the correct content demonstrates that 3D is now ready to come out of the wilderness and start enjoying some success as a mainstream technology. There are a few niggles, including the screen resolution and keyboard, but neither are a massive cause for drama.

Şu anki yüksek kalite masa üstü ekran kartları ile (7900 veya X1900 gibi) kıyaslanılabilirler. Hemen hemen aynı çekirdeğe sahip olsalarda, clock hızları farklı olduğu için biraz yavaş kaldıkları aşikar. Yeni oyunlar ( F.E.A.R., Company of Heroes gibi) yüksek çözünürlük ve full detaylarda çalışacaktır.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M:

Nvidia GeForce GTX 260M temelde GeForce 9800M GTX’in 55nm teknolojisi ile üretilmiş ve G92b çekirdeği üzerine kurulmuş halinin daha yüksek saat hızına sahip hali (bu yüzden masa üstü GTX 260 ile kıyaslanamaz). 9800M GTX ile kıyaslanıldığında GTX 260M 55nm teknolojisi ile üretilmekte ve bu yüzden daha yüksek saat hızına sahip.

720QM: Core i7-720QM, 2009 yılı içerisinde karşımıza Core i7 Quad çekirdeğin en yavaş üyesi olarak karşımıza çıkıyor. 1.6 ile 2.8 GHz aralığındaki saat hızı ile yavaş bir 4 çekirdekli işlemci olmakla beraber hızlı bir tek çekirdekli işlemci olmanın özelliklerinin avantajlarına sahip. Daha hızlı Core i7 işlemcilerle kıyaslandığında 720QM sadece 6MB L3 Cache kapasitesine sahip.

Intel Core i5:

430M: Core i5-430M orta sınıf 3MB Level 3 Cache kapasitesine sahip 2.26-2.53GHz saat hızına sahip laptop işlemcisi. VT-d, Trusted Execution ve bazı AES özelliklerinden yoksun işlemcide Hyperthreading sayesinde 4 komut eş zamanlı işlenebilmekte. Intel HD Grafik çözümü ve DDR3 bellek kontrolörü pakete dahil edilmiş.

15.6: 15 inçlik ekran ve varyasyonları tüm notebooklar için bir standart olup tüm notebookların yarısından çoğunda kullanılmakta. 15.4 inçlerde 16:10 standart görüntü.
