There are lots of reasons to seriously consider the Yoga book; first, it looks cool, it’s a sleek little computer with a Halo Keyboard that looks innovative and also a convertible that can be used as a tablet. Android feels peppier on an Atom PC with 4GB of RAM than Windows 10 does, and the Android model didn't seem as slow to recharge. The fantastically light and slim design and top-quality screen are the same, and the flat keyboard equally vexing, on both.

I seriously applaud Lenovo for taking a chance on a product like the Yoga Book, and I want them to continue evolving it. It has a lot of promise, but right now I feel that the Windows version is an answer to a problem few of us had--the main advantage of the virtual keyboard beyond good looks is that it allows for a rigid yet insanely thin laptop. Unless you type very little, I'm not sure it's worth the tradeoff. Maybe we'll see laptops of the future with something like Force Touch for the keyboard that will make typing easier and more natural.

This is a very slim, very light hybrid laptop, available in both Windows 10 and Android versions. The backlit touch keyboard vanishes at the touch of a button and the included stylus works well on both the Wacom surface and with an ink tip on actual paper. The keyboard isn't suited for more than minimal typing, there's only a single Micro-USB port for accessories and charging, and the Atom processor is slower than mainstream laptops. The hefty pen, extra tips and paper pad are a lot of additional gear to carry around.

Yes, if you can accept that you are buying an Android tablet with some bonus features, not a laptop. Sadly, we cannot recommend the Yoga Book as a laptop replacement with this processor. It’s an excellent, innovative Android tablet with some cool tricks. However, it’s not the laptop replacement it could be if it had a better processor. For this reason we also do not recommend the Windows version. Wait for the next version, or grab a Windows-based 2-in-1 or Chromebook if you’re looking for more performance and functionality.

Inside you’ll find a very basic computer: an Intel Atom x5-Z8850 CPU with 4GB of LPDDR3 memory and 64GB of eMMC storage. I started to benchmark the Yoga Book and just stopped after a few results, because guess what? It can’t play Crysis. It can handle browsing and using a few applications at once, but don’t overload it. The meager memory filled up, especially given the way I accumulate browser tabs. Under heavy use, it also tended to get warm in the upper margin of the bottom panel, near the middle of the hinge.

The Yoga Book’s stylus functionality is something I thought would disappoint, as the stylus can’t be used directly on the display. However, the touch pad transforms into an excellent graphics tablet that blew me away with its responsiveness, and even though you can’t write directly to the display, I had no issues annotating documents and drawing diagrams. In some ways this solution is better, as your palm doesn’t block the display while you annotate with the stylus.

The Yoga Book’s ability to capture my pen-and-paper notes really impressed me. Using the device as a smart clipboard for your notepad is intuitive and works flawlessly out of the box, with zero setup required. And the fact that you can write with the display turned off and tucked behind the digitizer pad means that you can keep taking notes without needing to charge the thing every day. The Windows version of the Yoga Book can’t do that, so I would avoid that model.

I feel like Lenovo is attacking the segment of iPad customers that buy iPads because there are no other alternatives on the market. The Android version of the Yoga Book comes in at the same base $500 price that the iPad does and much cheaper than the iPad Pro, but offers far more functionality out of the box than both. The software experience is more polished on the iPad, but the Lenovo Yoga Book has that cool factor that makes me want to take it everywhere I go.

It’s a nicely built tablet with great specs, sadly, Android still doesn’t look good or work well on a tablet. We’d recommend you look at the Yoga Book Windows 10 version. As a drawing tablet, this is a real nice device.

The whole thing gets a little shaky when you go beyond Lenovo’s apps and services pre-installed here. Five years after bringing Android to tablets, Google just doesn’t seem to have the form factor figured out. So it’s not really Lenovo’s fault, but it does limit the capabilities for the Yoga Book. At $499, it’s tough to recommend this device when your money isn’t going very far. I’d actually recommend the Windows version because, despite being slightly more expensive, you’re getting an operating system built for the form factor. There’s little reason to buy an Android tablet right now, especially at $499. But there are plenty of reasons to get a full-blown laptop running software that matches perfectly with the hardware.

Can the Yoga Book be your notebook replacement? Probably not. But in most cases, the Lenovo Yoga Book can do so much more while other conventional tablets and laptops fail. In terms of productivity, the Halo keyboard might pose an issue to some users because let’s face it, you can’t beat the physical keyboard with a virtual one. Although, the one presented in this device comes pretty close. Also, if you really rely on your everyday tasks, the Windows version will suit you better while the Android variant will be more suitable for casual use and creativity, not to mention that the Android version still needs more polishing in terms of usability as we already mentioned in the software section.

A tough question for such a unique device. The Yoga Book should be very useful for students and sketchers who want to back up their work and also need a tablet for typed note taking. For everybody else with less specific use cases, a £400 Google Pixel C (with a third-party Bluetooth keyboard) might be a better choice. Or, if you want to spent a lot more, the highly capable 9.7-inch iPad Pro has better performance, an amazing stylus and a good keyboard. But with all of that you’re going to be spending close to £700.

The Yoga Book isn’t pretending it can replace your laptop, so don’t expect it to. You won’t get all your work done on it, but we are pleasantly surprised by how much we did get done when we needed to. Note taking with the paper remains the lasting attraction here, and while some tasks take slightly longer than if on a computer, the portability you gain for the price will be worth it for most.

There are so many glimmers of greatness in the Lenovo Yoga Book that I wish I loved it more. You can see the first hints of the future of laptops in the device, which straddles tablets and laptops, but Lenovo hasn't stuck the landing just yet. It's a great device for drawing and note taking, and Lenovo has some ideas for Android from which Google should borrow liberally. But typing on the Halo keyboard is difficult enough that I could never get real work done on it.

Can it do more than a tablet alone? It can, but at the cost of not being the best possible tablet. Can it replace your computer? The Atom processor and funky keyboard mean no, not likely. Ultimately, it’s like winding up with a platypus when all you really wanted was a beaver or a duck. The exception is if you enjoy digital sketching and note-taking enough that you want the option handy at all times, but not so much that you’d spring for a dedicated accessory. That’s a narrow frame of appeal to contort into, but hey. That’s what Yoga is for.

The Lenovo Yoga Book 9i is one of the most interesting laptops we’ve reviewed in 2023. Or even in recent years, come to think of it. But it’s not going to be the most practical pick for many people. Our main complaint is it often doesn’t feel all that handy to use as a normal laptop when out and about. Working from a pure touchscreen interface? Not much fun. And while taking out the wireless keyboard improves matters a load, that’s not always ideal. Oh, and the glossy glass touchpad? Still rubbish. The Lenovo Yoga Book 9i shines brightest when working a bit like a dual-screen desktop PC that can be stashed in your rucksack. If that’s what you’re after then welcome to a slice of hybrid-laptop heaven.

Currently, the Lenovo website lists the Yoga Book 9i as "coming soon" with no price. However, it previously listed the Book 9i at $2,656 in Canada, though you could push that price higher by customizing it with extras like additional storage. While definitely expensive, it’s not significantly more than some high-end Windows laptops and 2-in-1s, notably Microsoft’s Surface Pro 9 and Laptop 5. For example, a similarly-specced Laptop 5 would run you $2,209.99, and a Pro 9 would cost $2,449.99 (and that’s before necessary accessories like the keyboard). The Yoga Book 9i’s price, thankfully, includes the must-have keyboard and folio accessories that allow the device to function at its best. Ultimately, I wouldn’t recommend the Yoga Book 9i as a device for working on the go, especially given its portability issues. That said, it offers a very unique PC experience and can outstrip the functionality of a traditional clamshell laptop when you’ve got it set up at your desk.

I’m skeptical of any laptop company that makes claims regarding how its product will improve my workflow; a lot of things are not made with neurodivergent brains in mind. But the Yoga Book 9i lives up to Lenovo’s claims and has been a better tool than I could have ever imagined for my unique brain. Efficiency isn’t just about how fast a computer can sort a spreadsheet with lots of formulas, but also how you can physically manipulate the device you’re using, to make your “organic chips” process information faster. That’s the Yoga Book 9i, a snappy machine that is both efficient in processing, power draw, and battery life, and can physically transform for a variety of use cases. Some of the closet alternatives you’ll find with some similar combination of price, specs, and features are the Apple MacBook Pro 13 M2, Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i, and Acer Swift Go 16 , but none of them can do what the Lenovo Yoga Book 9i can do.

As previously mentioned, the only ask that we might have is perhaps the inclusion of an SD card reader to complement the Thunderbolt ports to make loading photos and videos easier, but we understand why that might be excluded due to space constraints. When space is limited, the Yoga Book 9i’s clamshell mode feels right at home on an airplane tray table. But when it's not, it can expand into a portable dual-screen workstation–complete with all the fixings of your desktop at home. And when you need to pack up, everything collapses into a neat, semi-self-contained bundle that fits in the smallest of laptop bags. The Yoga Book 9i is a nifty little transformer that’s more engaging than anything Michael Bay has directed in the last two decades.

Before I tried the Lenovo Yoga Book 9i, I assumed that the concept of a dual-display laptop was just a gimmick with more cons than pros. Now that I’ve been using it for a while, I’ve sort of bought into the idea of having just that much space without needing to hook up to an external monitor. Yes, the speaker could be better, but given that I personally mostly watch YouTube videos on my laptop, I’d say that it suffices. If you’re the kind that uses the built-in speakers on your laptop to watch films instead of using headphones or even just watching it on a TV, then this device’s speakers might disappoint you. I have no issues with the battery life as I don’t usually need to use my laptop outside for more than a couple of hours. That being said, the weight might be a minor annoyance for me while travelling, especially when coupled with the folio stand and keyboard.

While the idea of a dual-screen laptop seems like a far-out concept, with the Yoga Book 9i, Lenovo is proving there’s a lot of merit to its design. By including a bunch of bundled accessories including a stylus, a magnetic keyboard and a folding kickstand cover, the laptop can transform from a standard clamshell to a portable all-in-one in seconds. Its daul 13.3-inch OLED displays are punchy and bright and, despite having two panels instead one, battery life is pretty solid. Where I see this will really hit the mark is with travelling workers who want to maintain productivity and content creators who need, and value screen real estate but don’t need discrete graphics for their work. The hardware is really good-looking, as well as being highly functional and a delight to use. In reality, there are a few gripes and depending on your use case, some will have an impact on you, whereas others will not. It’s impressive hardware and a game changing form factor; if you truly need the screen space on the go, this really is an absolute beast of a machine. I’d happily tell anyone that fits the market for this to go and grab one, because I just don’t see any way they’ll be disappointed.

Two screens at the same time. That is the whole appeal of Lenovo’s Yoga Book 9i in a nutshell, as best as I can tell after using the device for a couple of weeks. The $1,999.99 9i, for the uninitiated, is a dual-screen clamshell touchscreen laptop that eschews the traditional keyboard deck for a second touchscreen on the bottom half. Lenovo has been experimenting with nontraditional laptop designs for years, from foldable ThinkPads to twisting laptops with E Ink displays and virtual keyboards, and it hasn’t always gone well. High prices, awkward software, and unconventional designs have kept them from really being anything you should buy. The Yoga Book 9i is not without some of those compromises. Still, it is Lenovo’s best execution of the dual-screen form factor and doesn’t feel nearly as much like an experiment as Lenovo’s earlier ideas.

The laptop comes with a very stable folding stand (portrait and landscape modes supported), Lenovo Bluetooth mouse and keyboard and pen.
