The $949 15.6-inch Asus G50VT-X5 certainly looks the part of a gaming laptop, with splashes of color, lights everywhere, an extended keyboard, and a small secondary OLED display. Its components back up those appearances, too, with a 512MB Nvidia GeForce 9800M GS graphics card and adequately powerful 2.13GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P7450 processor--a good set of components for a sub-$1,000 system. The Asus G50VT-X5 offers great gaming performance for under $1,000, but it's missing some basic amenities we've come to expect, and the lightning-bolt design may not appeal to all.

The Asus G50V, Asus' latest range of gaming laptops, is fully loaded with features that are a testimony to its performance. With an elegant design and black-and-orange finish, the Asus G50V resonates style. We put the G50V through its paces. The notebook comes with a backpack and two years warranty. Overall, we liked what we saw of the Asus G50V, and gaming is its only mantra. But, gaming laptops are a rare breed. They cater to a niche that likes to indulge and doesn't mind splurging more on extra performance, given a laptop's form factor. If you are in that niche, the Asus G50V is a worthy contender - but it certainly ain't cheap.

If you’re willing to accept the limitations of a gaming notebook, including poor battery life, size, bulk, and debatably gaudy styling, the Asus G50Vt delivers many times over in sheer speed and performance. It shocked us with its capabilities, and with a pricetag of only $1,250, we would even call it bargain for the segment.

An excellent gaming notebook which makes good use of Intel's latest mobile technology and one of Nvidia's faster mobile GPUs, to provide enough performance that you won't be embarrassed taking it to a LAN party. But its performance doesn't come cheap.

Asus' Republic of Gamers brand has been wowing gamers for years now. Any motherboard, PC or graphics card with its fishy-looking logo has a good stab at providing gaming performance above the norm. The £1,000 Asus G50 gaming laptop -- the latest to sport the logo -- is aimed at those who want to frag with impunity, safe in the knowledge that their gaming experience won't be interrupted by untimely slowdown. The G50 is an attractive, well-constructed laptop with decent, if hardly stunning performance. It isn't the best gaming laptop we've seen, but its HDMI output and Blu-ray combo player make it a solid Media Center machine.

Although the ASUS G50V’s scores are very good for a 15.4-inch notebook, customers should think seriously about the Gateway P-7811FX, which has better raw performance scores and costs $300 less while delivering a larger display. While the Gateway is heavier and has worse wireless performance, it lasts 42 minutes longer on a charge. But if you dig a profile that more resembles a mainstream computer, and flashing lights for some LAN party wowing, check out the ASUS G50V.

The Asus G50v is a great gaming notebook. The build quality and performance are amazing for such a compact machine. It's also great value for the price. If there is any problem with this machine it's the lack of Full HD support, which would have easily made this a Hot Product.

NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GT: 8700M GT serisinin yeni versiyonu ve teknik olarak 9600M GT’nin saat hızı arttırılmış hali. Geliştirilmiş video motoru sayesinde HD videoların (PureVideo HD – VP2) decoding işlemi, HybridPower, Cuda, PhysX gibi işlemleri ve teknolojileri desteklemekte.

Çok seçici olmayan oyunlar akıcı olarak oynanabilir. Ama düşük çözünürlüğe ve dolayısıyla düşük detaylara hazır olun. Yine de bu kartlar ofis ve video görüntüleme (HD Videolar içinde uygun olduğu söylenebilir) konularında yeterli performansı veriyor.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Daha fazla tüketime ihtiyaç duymayan ve daha uzun aktarım hatlarına sahip Core Duo ve Core Solo işlemcilerin yeni nesli. Core Duo dizanynına ek olarak 4. bir decoder, güçlendirilmiş SSE unitesi ve ek Aritmetik mantık ünitesi ( ALU ) mevcut.

Core 2 Duo Laptop işlemcileri masa üstü işlemcilerle benzer. Sadece daha düşük voltaj ile çalışmakta (0.95 Volt - 1188 Volt) ve daha düşük frontside bus saat hızına sahip (1066 MHz karşı 667 MHz). Aynı hıza sahip olsalarda laptop Core 2 Duo işlemcileri masa üstü versiyonlarına oranla daha düşük frontside bus ve yavaş hard disklerinden ötürü 20 - 25% daha yavaş.

P8600: Hızlı ama halen pahalı olan Dual Core işlemci. Çoğu oyun ve uygulama için yeterli olmakla beraber 25 Wattlık güç tüketimi ile küçük laptoplarda bile kullanılabilmekte.
