Mobile broadband is really starting to take off. You have two options here: you can either opt for a laptop with SIM support built in or buy a laptop and add a ‘dongle' from your favourite operator, which will slot happily into any USB port. Hewlett Packard's 6730b fits into the former category, and Orange is giving it away if you take out a £45-per-month mobile broadband contract. This is a solid enough notebook, and getting online with the Orange SIM was easy. We aren't sure we like the idea of being tethered to one provider or one notebook for two years, though.

It seems that difference between “B” and “S” series of HP notebooks was never more distinctive then in recent period at least when it comes to quilt quality. HP Compaq 6735s didn’t impress us but HP 6730b is worthy to represent its famous manufacturer. Big difference between those two series can be noticed after first contact. Chassis of HP Compaq 6730b is very stiff and whole notebook looks like robust and reliable piece of hardware thanks to roll-cage that is reinforced by magnesium alloy. Our impressions of HP Compaq 6730b are very favorable. Since it isn’t small and light it is suited for an office table more than to be carried around. HP reliability and quality build are guarantees that with HP Compaq 6730b you won’t be disappointed.

With the notable exception of the Dell Latitude E6400, business notebooks tend to be slightly boring. Unlike consumer notebooks, the emphasis is on substance over style - which is of course is a good thing, just not very exciting. Orange's Business Everywhere mobile broadband plan partnered to HP Compaq's 6730b with integrated 3G/HSDPA makes for an interesting and relatively good-value combo for any business user that needs to stay connected wherever they are. As with most bundles though, it's not for everyone, and you'll need to check carefully if this combination is what your business needs.

There's no mistaking this is a laptop designed for business use. Sensible grey-black styling with just a hint of corporate chic; a screen with a matte anti-glare finish rather than a glossy video-orientated affair; and a fingerprint reader to complement to the TPM 1.2 module all serve to lay the 6730b's corporate cards on the table. You get a 3G mobile broadband modem too. Beyond that, the machine makes a fine first impression. On the face of it the price isn't competitive, but the 6730b is a tempting business machine even so.

Overall we’re very pleased with the design and features of this versatile business model. Unless you’re in the market for a smaller, more lightweight model of notebook, the HP Compaq 6730b’s business-savvy features should keep your data safe, and be a welcomed addition to any office arsenal.

The 6730b may seem like any other 15.4-inch business notebook, but a few tweaks here and there really brighten things up for it. A nice selection of materials (albeit mostly plastics), solid keyboard, bright display, and new components were able to get this reasonably priced notebook and make it seem a bit different from the rest of the pack. It would be great to see a discrete graphics option and many of the features will only appeal to business users (serial port anyone?) but overall HP is taking its notebooks in the right direction with their Montevina rollout.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: GM45 çipsetine (Montevina) kurulmuş, onboard (paylaşımlı) grafik kartı. 2 adet daha fazla shadera sahip olması ve daha yüksek saat hızından ötürü GMA X3100 den oldukça hızlı. Yinede oyuncular için (DirectX 10 oyunları oynanamaz, oynansa bile çok düşük detaylarda) önerilebilir olduğu söylenemez. Dahili video işlemcisi, düşük hızlı işlemcilere HD video decode (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2) işlemleri sırasında yardımcı olarak Blu-Ray medyaların akıcı şekilde oynatılmasını sağlıyor.

Sadece eski oyunlar bu grafik kartları ile akıcı bir şekilde (eğer yüksek bir sistem gereksinimi duymuyorlarsa) oynanabilir. Bu kategorideki paylaşımlı grafik çekirdekleri az ısınma ve daha uzun batarya ömrü gibi avantajlara sahip. Intel Core 2 Duo: Daha fazla tüketime ihtiyaç duymayan ve daha uzun aktarım hatlarına sahip Core Duo ve Core Solo işlemcilerin yeni nesli. Core Duo dizanynına ek olarak 4. bir decoder, güçlendirilmiş SSE unitesi ve ek Aritmetik mantık ünitesi ( ALU ) mevcut.
