Unveiled at CES 2021, the latest Envy 14 incorporates almost everything great about last year's 15.6-inch Envy 15 but in a more portable 14-inch form factor. It's one of HP's fastest laptops in this screen size to make it a solid option for those who want to maximize performance without settling for larger alternatives.

EN→TRThere is no doubt that the Envy 14 has been made to stand out, with ample features that speak volumes of its premium-ness. It has a strong focus on core points like display, performance, battery life and portability. All this is further complemented by the premium speakers, backlit keyboard, fingerprint scanner, 720p webcam with camera shutter and more. With that being noted, the price on the Envy 14 is not an easy to ignore figure, especially considering that it can easily fetch you a laptop with a Core i7 processor. As a result, the Envy 14 becomes a use-case choice for creators who want a device more focused on graphics output than overall performance. In either case, the Envy 14 is sure to exceed your expectations when it is put to use. If you decide to go for it, know that you are in for a smooth, lag-free and powerful experience that few other laptops can promise to provide.

In addition to solid performance, the Envy 14 offers Thunderbolt 4, a solid typing experience, a conscientious camera shutter, and absolutely fantastic battery life. It offers more bang for the buck than HP’s Spectre x360 14, itself an Editor’s Choice-winning 14-inch Tiger Lake laptop that lacks the discrete GPU. We don’t think much of the gimmicky Enhanced Lighting app, but we can see this laptop easily being used for content creation and some streaming.

Lisa Gade reviews the updated HP Envy 14 laptop for 2021. Taking a page from the Envy 15 playbook, this Ultrabook-sized 14” laptop packs dedicated NVIDIA graphics into a premium aluminum chassis that’s significantly less expensive than the competition. The Envy 14 has a 16:10 aspect ratio display (touch and non-touch available), Intel 11thg gen Tiger Lake quad core CPUs with Intel Iris Xe graphics + NVIDIA GTX 1650 Ti Max-Q dedicated graphics. The laptop has a fingerprint scanner, electronic webcam privacy shutter, dual cooling fans and weighs 3.3 lb / 1.5 kg.

EN→TRIf I was currently shopping for a laptop, the HP Envy 14 (2021) would be on my mind. Between its powerful performance, sleek chassis, pretty 16:10 display and decently long battery life, it’s tough to say no to this machine. But as someone who knows a little too much about laptops, I’m picky. The $1,249 price tag is too expensive for those components, especially when the SSD is lagging behind the average and the speakers aren’t the best.

EN→TROverall, this is a laptop we're very excited to try for ourselves. HP's move away from 16:9 screens is a great one, and the combination of speed, power, efficiency, and price makes this one of the better laptops coming out in the first half of 2021.

EN→TRI’d reckon some of you might argue this is not even worth considering since it’s Intel-based and not AMD, but come on. The Tiger Lake i5 is a solid everyday performer and a good match for the GTX 1650Ti dGPU for light gaming. Sure, it’s not meant to run Blender or Premiere or other heavy multithreaded loads, and if that’s what you’re interested in, then this laptop is not for you. Nonetheless, I’m pretty sure you’ll struggle to find a similar package at under $1000.
