If you wouldn’t mind abandoning G-Sync and downgrading your CPU to a Core i5, the Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming also packs a GTX 1060 Max-Q. It’s a great value at $980 on Dell.com. Microcenter’s homebrew PowerSpec 1510, on the other hand, only costs $1,200 and packs a more potent GTX 1070 with G-Sync. It’s a classic big, heavy gaming laptop though, and G-Sync is quietly disabled by default (and enabling it is a convoluted hassle). Also, the PowerSpec 1510 can only be picked up in-store at physical Microcenter locations.

For the intended purposes, though, the Omen 15 serves its purpose better than expected. However, the display is dimmer than I'd like.That positions the Omen 15 as a fine premium gaming laptop, and it's just good enough to overcome its few flaws.

The new HP Omen 15 proves that one generation is enough to drastically change our minds about the series. HP has definitely done its homework this time around and there aren’t any apparent issues with the model like before. Build quality is good, the updated design of the input devices makes them usable and we are impressed by its portability for a 15-inch gaming laptop with GTX 1060. We are also pretty happy with the fact that the price hasn’t been altered as much. That’s true, of course, about the GTX 1050 Ti configurations but what about the new GTX 1060 Max-Q Design variant that we reviewed?
