The HP OmniBook 5 Laptop AI has a few strengths, such as its touchpad and keyboard, but these are not enough to outweigh its flaws, including underwhelming performance and a dismal display. The display is disappointing, even at its often discounted price, while the performance and battery life are easier to take for under $700. The OmniBook is fine for basic tasks like web browsing, but if that's all you need a laptop for, you may consider going even cheaper with one of the best laptops under $500! On the other end of the spectrum, if you're looking for a high-performance laptop for work or creative tasks, you will be much better off with the MacBook Air M4 or one of the best 16-inch laptops. As much as I want to like every laptop I review, there are simply too many drawbacks to recommend the HP OmniBook 5 Laptop AI for most users unless it is deeply discounted.

The HP OmniBook 5 is a strong contender if you want a Windows laptop with great battery life. Though not a top performer, it does well enough for a laptop under $1,000. And it benefits from other perks like an enjoyable keyboard and OLED display. Pricing may not always be to HP’s benefit, as steep discounting on laptops with more powerful chips can dip into price territory similar to the OmniBook 5. But the HP’s 25-hour endurance and tiny GaN charger provide shoppers a good reason to buy it over the alternatives.

The HP Omnibook 5 is a capable student laptop with solid power, fantastic battery life and a decent OLED screen. It’s also quite light and portable, and has a pleasant aluminium chassis. You are compromising on ports against key rivals, though. The Asus Zenbook A14 is a little richer in terms of ports, while also being even lighter and more stylish in its chassis, although battery life isn’t as strong. Likewise, the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus 7441 (2024) trades an OLED screen for more potency and a better port selection against HP’s choice.

I had high hopes for the HP OmniBook 5 14 (G1q) when I first used it, and it's awesome to see those hopes met and then some. It's often difficult to get excited about value-driven hardware, but HP did such a fantastic job with balancing this laptop's features, performance, and price. I still like the ASUS Zenbook A14 (2025) I reviewed a little more and consider that the better laptop, but it also costs up to $300 more for similar specs. For just $699.99 at BestBuy.com (easily the best deal), there's really no other laptop that's beating the OmniBook 5 14 (G1q) for sheer value right now. HP delivered the complete package with this machine, with multi-day battery life to boot. It's an excellent companion for casual computing and is guaranteed to enjoy years of new features through Windows updates. I only wish the port selection was better.
