We’ve already said that the most impressive feature of Y50 is its looks, which, besides representing aggressive design, contributes to the low weight ( for a gaming computer), combined with a slim body. Although the latter does not seem in favor of high frequencies for computing load, the video card holds up well and was able to work at maximum speed for a very long period of time. The screen, with its 282 pixels per inch and 4K resolution, is a big plus if you play light games, but not particularly great if you love the latest titles with heavy graphics. In the latter case, of course, you can simply reduce the resolution, but your heart will hardly allow this, given that you stand before an Ultra HD display.

Save for the screen and somewhat limited computing horsepower, the Lenovo Y50 is a very good package for its $1,519 or £999 (about AU$1,631) price tag. In a field of laptops that focus on filling out an internal spec sheet and stuffing it into a flimsy plastic chassis, the Lenovo Y50 is a breath of fresh air in good design. However, self-ascribed "hardcore" gamers that want a bit more oomph from their total desktop replacement should consider the $1,999 Gigabyte P35W v2. The GTX 870M-backed machine will simply run games better regardless, and it packs better battery battery life too boot.

The Lenovo Y50 delivers a lot of gaming oomph for a relatively inexpensive $1,249. You'll be able to play most titles at smooth frame rates in a handsome and portable 5.4-pound chassis. I also like that this rig delivers more battery life than other gaming notebooks in its class, It's just too bad that the screen on our configuration didn't wow as much as the other specs.

Lenovo's Y50 Touch is a well balanced system that is equally at home when used as a gaming system or as a general purpose performance system. The styling is agressive but not over the top like some gaming laptops on the market. The size and weight are quite good given the level of performance that it has. One downside for some is that it no longer features a DVD drive like past Y series laptops.
