The bottom line is that the Sony SR series is a good option for a 13.3-inch notebook, but not the clear choice in its price category. Assuming a price of about $1400, almost every major manufacturer has something on par with this model as 13.3 inches is a now a very popular size and Sony, as usual, comes in on the expensive end of the spectrum. This is a good looking notebook, with a competitive component list and a cool keyboard, as well as some features which trickled down from Sony’s top shelf products but it fails to truly distinguish itself from the likes of the Dell XPS M1330 or HP Pavilion dv3500t, both of which are substantially cheaper than the Sony. Plus now that the new MacBook has arrived, Sony is no longer the leader in terms of aesthetics either.

VAT) sees a number of updates to the design and internal components. Although this model marks an evolution rather than a revolution for the SR range, the changes are all welcome and turn this into a very good ultraportable. It's a shame the plastics used inside aren't a little tougher but, that aside, it's a highly impressive machine.

Sony's VGN-SR420J/B is an update to their low cost 13-inch ultraportable that does some things right but suffers from older technology and too much software clutter. The graphics are the key selling point of the laptop with an excellent LED backlit display and a dedicated graphics processor, a rarity in this market class. Sony also provides a wide range of peripheral ports including FireWire and an ExpressCard slot. Its too bad that Sony didn't see the need to also upgrade the memory or reduce the amount of software that hampers performance.

For the price, we were pretty pleased with the Sony Vaio VGN-SR590. It featured amazing performance for its weight-class and size. The laptop has an amazing design, and is highly recommended to students and businessmen on a budget. There were some quality issues, but other than that we were still happy with the laptop.

Sony:
Sony, merkezi Japonyada bulunan elektronik, video, iletişim, oyun konsolları ve bilgi teknolojileri ürünlerinde hizmet veren en büyük şirketlerden birisidir. Marka “sonus” latincede ses anlamına gelen kelmıeden gelmektedır. 1946 yılında farklı bir isimle kurulmuş olsada 1958 yılında yeniden isimlendirilmiştir. Sony Corporatıon, Sony grubunun patent ve elektronik kısmını oluşturmaktadır. Sony pazar payı bakmından orta ölçekli bir notebook üretici olarak görülmektedir.
Sadece eski oyunlar bu grafik kartları ile akıcı bir şekilde (eğer yüksek bir sistem gereksinimi duymuyorlarsa) oynanabilir. Bu kategorideki paylaşımlı grafik çekirdekleri az ısınma ve daha uzun batarya ömrü gibi avantajlara sahip. Ofis, internet, şekil düzenleme ve video editleme gibi işlemler herhangi bir kısıtlama olmadan bu grafik kartları ile yapılabilir.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: GM45 çipsetine (Montevina) kurulmuş, onboard (paylaşımlı) grafik kartı. 2 adet daha fazla shadera sahip olması ve daha yüksek saat hızından ötürü GMA X3100 den oldukça hızlı. Yinede oyuncular için (DirectX 10 oyunları oynanamaz, oynansa bile çok düşük detaylarda) önerilebilir olduğu söylenemez. Dahili video işlemcisi, düşük hızlı işlemcilere HD video decode (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2) işlemleri sırasında yardımcı olarak Blu-Ray medyaların akıcı şekilde oynatılmasını sağlıyor.

64bit memory bus’a sahip, düşük sınıf GPU ve shader sayısına sahip yüksek saat hızlı grafik kartı. Masaüstü Radeon 4550 benzeri. Avivo HD ve DirectX 10.1 desteği mevcut.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Daha fazla tüketime ihtiyaç duymayan ve daha uzun aktarım hatlarına sahip Core Duo ve Core Solo işlemcilerin yeni nesli. Core Duo dizanynına ek olarak 4. bir decoder, güçlendirilmiş SSE unitesi ve ek Aritmetik mantık ünitesi ( ALU ) mevcut.
Core 2 Duo Laptop işlemcileri masa üstü işlemcilerle benzer. Sadece daha düşük voltaj ile çalışmakta (0.95 Volt - 1188 Volt) ve daha düşük frontside bus saat hızına sahip (1066 MHz karşı 667 MHz). Aynı hıza sahip olsalarda laptop Core 2 Duo işlemcileri masa üstü versiyonlarına oranla daha düşük frontside bus ve yavaş hard disklerinden ötürü 20 - 25% daha yavaş.
P8400: 25 Wattlık güç tüketimine sahip orta sınıf işlemci. Oyuncular için performansı yeterli değil.
T9800: 6MB Level 2 Cache kapasiteli 2.93 GHz saat hızına sahip üst sınıft işlemci.
T6400:
Penryn çekirdeği tabanlı, 2MB level 2 Cache kapasiteli, düşük saat hızlı dual core işlemci.
P8600: Hızlı ama halen pahalı olan Dual Core işlemci. Çoğu oyun ve uygulama için yeterli olmakla beraber 25 Wattlık güç tüketimi ile küçük laptoplarda bile kullanılabilmekte.
P8800: Mid-range dual core processor with 3 MB level 3 cache and a TDP of 25 Watt.
T6500:
