The Sony Vaio AW11 is so big and unwieldy that it's worth remembering that you could get a more powerful desktop PC for the same price with an LED monitor that would put the AW11's screen to shame. But if you want a degree of portability, Sony's laptop is one of the best around.

The AW's keyboard is similar in style to all recent Sony VAIO's, with the keys protruding through individual holes in the chassis. This is the first time we've seen a dedicated numeric pad alongside as well, however, and usability proved excellent. In relation to regular laptops, the touchpad is huge, and offers an easy and accurate way of navigation. While our review model featured a traditional 300GB hard drive, top of the range AW's feature both 128GB flash drives and 500GB hard drives, offering fast access speeds and generous storage space.

Blacks are also accurately dark. It's a Super-TFT panel, so there are some inevitable reflections in brighter conditions, but it's a price well worth paying. Photos and movies look stunning, with high-definition (HD) films in particular reproduced in their full glory. External displays can also easily be connected using the high-definition digital HDMI or analogue VGA ports. If you can afford the high price tag, the AW11Z/B is without peer. You'll find a perfect blend of performance and features, and the large screen makes the most of your HD movies.

EN→TR Archive.org versionSo with a relatively decent (but average) performance but a more than average size, you would expect the Sony VAIO AW-17GU to be slightly expensive in the way VAIO units always are. Unfortunately,this is not the case here, as the AW-17GU comes in at a whopping price tag of S$6999. That's a lot of money to spend on a DTR and we're unsure if it's actually worth it. While Apple naysayers tend to put down Apple's products by complaining about the so-called "Apple tax", it's sometimes strange to find Sony getting away with the same thing. To further prove our point, we also checked out the Sony VAIO VGN-AR18GP DTR model that was top of the line two years back which was the first notebook to feature a Blu-ray drive.

Sony has been producing media enabled laptops for some time and were one of the first to introduce Blu-ray drives. The new VAIO VGN-AW235J/B is a surprise release from the company that makes for an extremely capable high definition media platform at a very reasonable price. While it might still be more expensive than many other desktop replacements, it is still one of the cheapest to feature a Blu-ray burner. Of course, the 18.4-inch screen makes it less portable than those using 17-inch screens and Sony does have fewer peripheral connectors than similar equipped laptops.

We rather liked the last vast Sony Vaio laptop that we reviewed, the 18.4-inch VGN-AW31M/H, but its specification fell rather short for the price. Now there's a new monster model to up the ante, the cheaper and more balanced, 18.4-inch Sony Vaio VGN-AW41MF/H. It will set you back about £1,000. The Vaio VGN-AW41MF/H is a luscious behemoth with plenty of muscle, and comes at a more reasonable price than some similar Sony machines. We'd heap more praise on it if its screen were crisper, but that doesn't detract too much from a highly capable desktop-replacement laptop.

Sony, merkezi Japonyada bulunan elektronik, video, iletişim, oyun konsolları ve bilgi teknolojileri ürünlerinde hizmet veren en büyük şirketlerden birisidir. Marka “sonus” latincede ses anlamına gelen kelmıeden gelmektedır. 1946 yılında farklı bir isimle kurulmuş olsada 1958 yılında yeniden isimlendirilmiştir. Sony Corporatıon, Sony grubunun patent ve elektronik kısmını oluşturmaktadır. Sony pazar payı bakmından orta ölçekli bir notebook üretici olarak görülmektedir.
Sadece eski oyunlar bu grafik kartları ile akıcı bir şekilde (eğer yüksek bir sistem gereksinimi duymuyorlarsa) oynanabilir. Bu kategorideki paylaşımlı grafik çekirdekleri az ısınma ve daha uzun batarya ömrü gibi avantajlara sahip. Ofis, internet, şekil düzenleme ve video editleme gibi işlemler herhangi bir kısıtlama olmadan bu grafik kartları ile yapılabilir.
NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS: 9300M G ile kıyaslandığında GS sadece 8 adet unified shadera sahip, ama saat hızı daha yüksek. Bu yüzden Nvidia’ya göre performansları hemen hemen aynı.
Hybrid-SLI (GeForceBoost ve HybridPower), Nvidia 9100M G ile desteklenmekte ve PureVideo HD(VP3) desteği.
Çok seçici olmayan oyunlar akıcı olarak oynanabilir. Ama düşük çözünürlüğe ve dolayısıyla düşük detaylara hazır olun. Yine de bu kartlar ofis ve video görüntüleme (HD Videolar içinde uygun olduğu söylenebilir) konularında yeterli performansı veriyor.
NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT: 8600M GT’nin yeni serisi ve 65nm lik üretim sayesinde kart aynı tüketim oranları ile daha yüksek saat hızına sahip ( tabi ki daha hızlıda). Dahası geliştirilmiş video işlemcisine (VP3) ve enerji tasarrufu için (9100M G ile kullanıldığında) HybridPower desteğine sahip.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Daha fazla tüketime ihtiyaç duymayan ve daha uzun aktarım hatlarına sahip Core Duo ve Core Solo işlemcilerin yeni nesli. Core Duo dizanynına ek olarak 4. bir decoder, güçlendirilmiş SSE unitesi ve ek Aritmetik mantık ünitesi ( ALU ) mevcut.
Core 2 Duo Laptop işlemcileri masa üstü işlemcilerle benzer. Sadece daha düşük voltaj ile çalışmakta (0.95 Volt - 1188 Volt) ve daha düşük frontside bus saat hızına sahip (1066 MHz karşı 667 MHz). Aynı hıza sahip olsalarda laptop Core 2 Duo işlemcileri masa üstü versiyonlarına oranla daha düşük frontside bus ve yavaş hard disklerinden ötürü 20 - 25% daha yavaş.
P8400: 25 Wattlık güç tüketimine sahip orta sınıf işlemci. Oyuncular için performansı yeterli değil.
T9600: Core 2 Duo P9700 ile benzer olup daha yüksek güç tüketimine sahip. 2009 oyunları için performansı yeterli.
T9400: Core 2 Duo P9500 ile aynı performansa ama daha yüksek güç tüketimine sahip işlemci.
P8600: Hızlı ama halen pahalı olan Dual Core işlemci. Çoğu oyun ve uygulama için yeterli olmakla beraber 25 Wattlık güç tüketimi ile küçük laptoplarda bile kullanılabilmekte.
