The VAIO FW is a great step forward for Sony, and a worthy competitor to the Dell Studio 15 or even the Toshiba A305. The design is great, but more importantly the build quality is excellent. It feels solid, with a reasonably firm screen cover and keyboard that feels as if a child could walk across it. Performance was more than adequate in every area except 3D performance, but hopefully Sony decides to offer a higher performing graphics card as an option at a later date. The only real flaw that stood out to me was the screen, with its uneven backlight. Hopefully this is a preproduction unit flaw, and not something that shows up on shipping models.

EN→TR Archive.org versionThe Vaio performs well across the board. It's a well balanced machine, suitable for many uses, affordable and good looking. We do have some complaints, but nothing big. So should you get one? Well, it depends. In case you're looking at $1,000 15.4-inch machines, the Vaio will offer you an extra inch of screen real estate and a higher resolution in a very compact package. Let's face it, if you're planning to carry your notebook around all day long, you'll get a 12 or 13-inch model to begin with. If not, the 16.4-inch Vaio is just marginally larger and heavier than a 15.4-inch notebook and it's a very tempting alternative. If amateur video is your game, or if you just watch a lot of movies on your notebook, it will be great.

The Sony VAIO FW139E/H was a good purchase for me. The features, build, and price were right, and I am content with the purchase. It is more than enough for any engineering CAD applications I will be using for undergraduate studies, and is great for multitasking and mild gaming. The VAIO FW's CPU and FSB speed, 3GB of RAM, and Radeon GPU are a wonderful combo for mobile power. The aspect ratio of the screen is perfect for entertainment. The build quality is fantastic; Sony does not deliver anything but their best in hardware. The downside is insignificant. For someone looking for the best battery life, being able to play the latest game on High settings, or good sound reproduction, this is not the laptop they should look into. This laptop is fine for the mild power user who still wants portability. Of course, my vision of portability probably differs from someone who finds 6.4lbs heavy. It is nothing like the large VAIO AR, however. The VAIO FW is an FZ in size, and half-way between an FZ and AR in power.

Several months ago, one of our favorite retail laptops was the Sony Vaio FW480J/T. Besides offering no-hassle Blu-ray playback and a large if not full-HD 1,600x900-pixel 16.4-inch screen, it had decent discrete graphics that could handle many mainstream games. With Blu-ray playback, a large screen and decent discrete graphics, the Sony Vaio FW560F/T is a very compelling sub-$1,000 multimedia notebook.

Sony:
Sony, merkezi Japonyada bulunan elektronik, video, iletişim, oyun konsolları ve bilgi teknolojileri ürünlerinde hizmet veren en büyük şirketlerden birisidir. Marka “sonus” latincede ses anlamına gelen kelmıeden gelmektedır. 1946 yılında farklı bir isimle kurulmuş olsada 1958 yılında yeniden isimlendirilmiştir. Sony Corporatıon, Sony grubunun patent ve elektronik kısmını oluşturmaktadır. Sony pazar payı bakmından orta ölçekli bir notebook üretici olarak görülmektedir.
Sadece eski oyunlar bu grafik kartları ile akıcı bir şekilde (eğer yüksek bir sistem gereksinimi duymuyorlarsa) oynanabilir. Bu kategorideki paylaşımlı grafik çekirdekleri az ısınma ve daha uzun batarya ömrü gibi avantajlara sahip. Ofis, internet, şekil düzenleme ve video editleme gibi işlemler herhangi bir kısıtlama olmadan bu grafik kartları ile yapılabilir.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: GM45 çipsetine (Montevina) kurulmuş, onboard (paylaşımlı) grafik kartı. 2 adet daha fazla shadera sahip olması ve daha yüksek saat hızından ötürü GMA X3100 den oldukça hızlı. Yinede oyuncular için (DirectX 10 oyunları oynanamaz, oynansa bile çok düşük detaylarda) önerilebilir olduğu söylenemez. Dahili video işlemcisi, düşük hızlı işlemcilere HD video decode (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2) işlemleri sırasında yardımcı olarak Blu-Ray medyaların akıcı şekilde oynatılmasını sağlıyor.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470:
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650: 55 nm işlemci teknolojisi ile üretilmiş, daha yüksek çekirdek hızı ile HD 2600 / HD 2700 ün üstünde tutulabilecek orta sınıf bir grafik kartı.
120 aktarım işemcisi ( 48 adet 5 boyutlu Shader ünitesi) görsel işlemlerini yapmakta.
Çok seçici olmayan oyunlar akıcı olarak oynanabilir. Ama düşük çözünürlüğe ve dolayısıyla düşük detaylara hazır olun. Yine de bu kartlar ofis ve video görüntüleme (HD Videolar içinde uygun olduğu söylenebilir) konularında yeterli performansı veriyor.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650:
Mobility HD 4650 masaüstü 4650 mimarisi üzerine kurulmuş olsada daha düşük çekirdek ve bellek hızlarına sahiptir. Saat hızı (450-550 MHz mümkün) ve kullanılan bellek türüne gore (DDR2, DDR3, GDDR3 ile 600-800 MHz mümkün) mobil 4650 farklı performanslar sunabilir. Güç tüketimi 15-25W arasında değişmekte ve Avivo HD video özelliklerine sahip.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Daha fazla tüketime ihtiyaç duymayan ve daha uzun aktarım hatlarına sahip Core Duo ve Core Solo işlemcilerin yeni nesli. Core Duo dizanynına ek olarak 4. bir decoder, güçlendirilmiş SSE unitesi ve ek Aritmetik mantık ünitesi ( ALU ) mevcut.
Core 2 Duo Laptop işlemcileri masa üstü işlemcilerle benzer. Sadece daha düşük voltaj ile çalışmakta (0.95 Volt - 1188 Volt) ve daha düşük frontside bus saat hızına sahip (1066 MHz karşı 667 MHz). Aynı hıza sahip olsalarda laptop Core 2 Duo işlemcileri masa üstü versiyonlarına oranla daha düşük frontside bus ve yavaş hard disklerinden ötürü 20 - 25% daha yavaş.
T9600: Core 2 Duo P9700 ile benzer olup daha yüksek güç tüketimine sahip. 2009 oyunları için performansı yeterli.
T9400: Core 2 Duo P9500 ile aynı performansa ama daha yüksek güç tüketimine sahip işlemci.
P8400: 25 Wattlık güç tüketimine sahip orta sınıf işlemci. Oyuncular için performansı yeterli değil.
T5800:
Merom tabanlı, sanallaştırma desteği olmayan giriş seviyesi dual core işlemci.
T9550: T9550 orta sınıf P9600 ile benzer özellikler taşıyan Core 2 Duo işlemci. T9550’nin performansı 2009 yılına ait çoğu oyun ve uygulama için yeterli.
