Snow White Office. A solidly built office notebook with good input devices is being sold for 899 euro. The new S range is the predecessor of the ceased SR series and is supposed to especially satisfy office fans. Sony combined the smallest Arrandale processor, i3-330 and Nvidia's 310M graphics. If these key numbers are sufficient for a 13 inch all-rounder will be shown in our comprehensive review.

The Sony VAIO S11 ticks all the right boxes for an 80% work/20% home laptop, but the best news is that the usual VAIO issue - the price - is only a small one here. At $2041 for this particular model, it's around $400 dearer than our previous favourite, Lenovo's ThinkPad T500, but it bests its ageing rival in almost every area of specification. We haven't yet seen Lenovo's Core i5 and i7 ThinkPad updates, but until we do, the Sony VAIO S11 takes the business laptop crown with ease.

It has a slower Core i3 processor instead of an i5 chip, has 4GB instead of 6GB of RAM and doesn't have a built-in 3G modem or fingerprint reader. If you can live with these compromises, you can save around £320.

The Sony VAIO S is a stylish and sturdy laptop, well-suited for students and business users. Portability has been well-taken care of, with the laptop weighing just 1.69 kg. Sony has paid attention to the ergonomics of the keyboard, allowing you to use it for longer periods without experiencing fatigue. Battery life has increased, thanks to the newer components such as the Sandy Bridge processor. The same processor, along with the capability to switch to AMD Radeon graphics turns it from a long battery life portable laptop to a high performance workstation. Although you have to pay extra, Smart Battery does provide you with the option to instantly double the battery life, which is something like a boon for people on the move. One major gripe about this otherwise excellent laptop is its poor display quality. If the display would have been better, it would have been very easy for us to recommend this laptop. While you can configure it online before you buy, the configuration we received costs Rs 56,990, which is a bit on the higher side, considering the fact that it does not come with a Blu-ray drive.

Sony's VAIO S132GX offers a middle ground in their ultraportable laptops but it still is a bit too expensive compared to the competition. At $1000, it should have more than 320GB hard drive space, a faster processor and certainly better battery life. Having said that, Sony does still offer some nice things including some excellent wireless connectivity and performance in addition to an internal DVD burner which many companies are dropping from ultraportables.

Sony:
Sony, merkezi Japonyada bulunan elektronik, video, iletişim, oyun konsolları ve bilgi teknolojileri ürünlerinde hizmet veren en büyük şirketlerden birisidir. Marka “sonus” latincede ses anlamına gelen kelmıeden gelmektedır. 1946 yılında farklı bir isimle kurulmuş olsada 1958 yılında yeniden isimlendirilmiştir. Sony Corporatıon, Sony grubunun patent ve elektronik kısmını oluşturmaktadır. Sony pazar payı bakmından orta ölçekli bir notebook üretici olarak görülmektedir.
Sadece eski oyunlar bu grafik kartları ile akıcı bir şekilde (eğer yüksek bir sistem gereksinimi duymuyorlarsa) oynanabilir. Bu kategorideki paylaşımlı grafik çekirdekleri az ısınma ve daha uzun batarya ömrü gibi avantajlara sahip. Ofis, internet, şekil düzenleme ve video editleme gibi işlemler herhangi bir kısıtlama olmadan bu grafik kartları ile yapılabilir.
NVIDIA GeForce 310M: GeForce 310M, GeForce G210M serisinin yeni versiyonu ve benzer saat hızı ile beraber aynı çip üzerine kurulmuş (shader hızı +30MHz ile 1530MHz).
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics:
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: GM45 çipsetine (Montevina) kurulmuş, onboard (paylaşımlı) grafik kartı. 2 adet daha fazla shadera sahip olması ve daha yüksek saat hızından ötürü GMA X3100 den oldukça hızlı. Yinede oyuncular için (DirectX 10 oyunları oynanamaz, oynansa bile çok düşük detaylarda) önerilebilir olduğu söylenemez. Dahili video işlemcisi, düşük hızlı işlemcilere HD video decode (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2) işlemleri sırasında yardımcı olarak Blu-Ray medyaların akıcı şekilde oynatılmasını sağlıyor.
Çok seçici olmayan oyunlar akıcı olarak oynanabilir. Ama düşük çözünürlüğe ve dolayısıyla düşük detaylara hazır olun. Yine de bu kartlar ofis ve video görüntüleme (HD Videolar içinde uygun olduğu söylenebilir) konularında yeterli performansı veriyor.
AMD Radeon HD 6470M:
UVD3 video işlemcisine sahip Seymore XT kod adlı çekirdek tabanlı giriş/orta seviye grafik kartı.
Bu tür grafik kaetları oyunlar için pek ideal değil. Eğer bir oyunu çalıştıracak olurlarsa ya grafiksel hatalarla ya da düşük frame oranlarıyla çalıştırabilirler. Oyuncular için uygun değiller. Ofis ve internet ise oyunların aksine bu GPU lar için sorun değil.

2520M: Sandy Bridge mimarili dual-core işlemci. Dahili grafik kartı ve çift kanallı DDR3 bellek kontrolörüne sahip.
