But the same basic combination of an Intel Atom N280 CPU, 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive and Windows XP is definitely available for less. Dell's less snazzy-looking Inspiron Mini 10 can also be outfitted with a similar high-definition display for around the same price, and offers more configuration flexibility.

Most disappointing is the battery life, and with rivals offering up to 8 or 9 hours between charges, it’s difficult to recommend this machine as a tool to work with when away from the office. If you’re just after a netbook for the daily commute, however, and battery life or price isn’t an issue, then it’s easy to like the VAIO W. The screen is simply stunning, and the design puts most other netbooks to shame.

EN→TR Archive.org versionSony's VAIO W is certainly a lot more affordable than their original P series netbook, but at $500 the system is still too expensive for the features that it carries. Sure, it has features such as 802.11n and Bluetooth but the main reason to look at this netbook is the 10.1-inch screen with its very high resolution and bright and colorful rendering. Of course, the glossy coating makes it hard to use and the keyboard is smaller than it could be. Sony really needs to reconsider its price or improve the design as there are better overall choices.

Sony's first foray in to the world of Atom-powered laptops was the Vaio P-series Lifestyle PC, which sported a unique miniaturized design (about the same footprint as a standard business envelope), but was hampered by input issues (no touch pad), and the use of Windows Vista as its OS. Attempting to create a premium-priced version of a Netbook, Sony has added an HD display to the Vaio W. It's an attractive step-up package, but the internal components are the same as are in cheaper models.

With plenty of competition out there, an impressive showing is needed to mark yourself out from other models. A nice looker this W12, however looks aren’t everything and it’s a shame that Sony didn’t go for better components. Moreover, the 6-cell battery sticks out quite a bit, which may be problematic when carrying it around.

The higher price may be tough for some users to swallow, but it’s a premium paid for a green product and for what you get it isn’t a bad deal. Personally I couldn’t get over the keyboard issue, but if you can handle the keyboard key sizes and the other minor issues the Sony Vaio W Eco Series is a well equipped machine that provides a green computing experience.

It uses the new Intel Atom N450 processor and GMA 3150 graphics but nothing else has really changed. It now comes with a 6-cell battery standard that helps it run longer but still average for the new class of netbooks. The display stays the same and will be the biggest draw. The flaws still exist from the original release though including a high price, small keyboard and only two USB ports.

Sony:
Sony, merkezi Japonyada bulunan elektronik, video, iletişim, oyun konsolları ve bilgi teknolojileri ürünlerinde hizmet veren en büyük şirketlerden birisidir. Marka “sonus” latincede ses anlamına gelen kelmıeden gelmektedır. 1946 yılında farklı bir isimle kurulmuş olsada 1958 yılında yeniden isimlendirilmiştir. Sony Corporatıon, Sony grubunun patent ve elektronik kısmını oluşturmaktadır. Sony pazar payı bakmından orta ölçekli bir notebook üretici olarak görülmektedir.
Bu tür grafik kaetları oyunlar için pek ideal değil. Eğer bir oyunu çalıştıracak olurlarsa ya grafiksel hatalarla ya da düşük frame oranlarıyla çalıştırabilirler. Oyuncular için uygun değiller. Ofis ve internet ise oyunların aksine bu GPU lar için sorun değil.

Intel Atom:
Intel Atom serisi 64-Bit bir işlemci olup UMPC ve MID türü gibi küçük notebooklar için ucuz bir işlemci alternatifidir. Yeni mimarinin özelliği “in order” uygulamasını kullanması. Böylece transistor sayısı azaltılıp, daha ucuz bir üretim mümkün.
N280: Güç tasarruflu yavaş tek çekirdekli Netbook işlemcisi. MHz başına performansı Core Solo veya Celeron M işlemcilerden daha kötü. N270 ile kıyaslanıldığında N280 sadece çok az daha hızlı ve daha yüksek FSB ile gelmekte.
N270: Güç tasarruflu, ucuz ce yavaş tek çekirdekli netbook işlemcisi. Performansı aynı saat hızına sahip Core Solo veya Celeron M işlemcilere oranla daha kötü.
N450: GMA 3150 GPU ve dahili bellek kontrolörüne sahip Netbooklar için üretilen Intel Atom serisi işlemci. Sistem performansı Atom N280 / GMA 950 kombinasyonundan sadece biraz daha hızlı.
