It's one of the fastest notebooks we've tested under 4 pounds, and the design feels stronger than its 12-inch predecessor. We also appreciate the machine's 6 hours of battery life. Unfortunately, we had to dock points for its high temperatures and less-than-stellar ergonomics. A part of us wishes Toshiba switched to the ULV version of Intel's Core i5 CPU for cooler and quieter operation, though you'd sacrifice some performance. Nevertheless, the R700 is a strong choice as is.

We like it a lot and this is not only due to its performance and small size, but also its build quality, which feels sturdy. Intel's integrated graphics card may be doing its best, but fresh titles can't go over 20 fps even at lowest settings. Naturally, any game older than, say, two years will work just fine (at lowest detail levels). The sound subsystem is nothing to be envious about - what's more, the sound is reminiscent of bedside radios. Therefore, the speakers will serve their purpose, but if you wish for a higher quality solution, you'll have to look for an external solution. Battery autonomy allows for less ambitious excursions, and the thing we have to reproach in this department is the very slow charger, which takes an eternity to charge the battery once it's been significantly drained. We hope that the problem was specific to our sample. As far as other flaws, not many are present, the largest of which is major heating on the left side of the notebook. Whenever the notebook was put under full load, the part left of the Tab key seemed hot enough to cause minor burns. Still, we dared to test out theory and the consequences weren't nearly as dramatic. After all, winter's on its way, rumoured to be the coldest one in years... The second and perhaps tallest of obstacles for buying this PC is its very high price. It may be justified up to a point with top production quality, choice of materials and hardware, as well as the very Toshiba brand. The PC is also factory-shipped with Office Starter and Windows 7 Professional 64-bit preinstalled, none of which are dirt cheap. However, we feel that most users won't find these qualities to be redeeming enough and that they'll turn elsewhere in search for a cheaper variant. Those who wish for a high-quality, ultra-portable 13” notebook will, however, be catered for by this model.

Toshiba:
Toshiba, Japonya kökenli uluslararası bir şirketler grubudur. Şirketin asıl işi altyapı hizmetleri, tüketici ürünleri ve elektronik cihaz ve bileşenlerinden oluşmakta. Toshiba en büyük uluslararası notebook üreticilerinden biri olup, hakkında birçok inceleme bulunmaktadır.
Sadece eski oyunlar bu grafik kartları ile akıcı bir şekilde (eğer yüksek bir sistem gereksinimi duymuyorlarsa) oynanabilir. Bu kategorideki paylaşımlı grafik çekirdekleri az ısınma ve daha uzun batarya ömrü gibi avantajlara sahip. Ofis, internet, şekil düzenleme ve video editleme gibi işlemler herhangi bir kısıtlama olmadan bu grafik kartları ile yapılabilir.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics:
Bu tür grafik kaetları oyunlar için pek ideal değil. Eğer bir oyunu çalıştıracak olurlarsa ya grafiksel hatalarla ya da düşük frame oranlarıyla çalıştırabilirler. Oyuncular için uygun değiller. Ofis ve internet ise oyunların aksine bu GPU lar için sorun değil.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3150: Dahili (paylaşımlı bellekli) Intel Atom N4xx serisi işlemcilerde kullanılan grafik kartı. Eski GMA 950lere nazaran biraz daha hızlı ve bu yüzden 3D oyunlar veya HD videolar için uygun değil (sadece MPEG2 desteği mevcut)

Intel Core i5:
520M: I7-640M ile kıyaslanıldığında i5-520M sadece 3 MB L3 Cache kapasitesibe ve 2.4 – 2.93 GHz aralığında saat hızına sahip. Hyperthreading sayesinde 4 komut eş zamanlı olarak işlenebilmekte. GMA HD 3150 ile beraber DDR3 bellek kontrolörü de pakete dahil.
450M:
Core i5-520M benzeri AES fonksiyonlarından yoksun işlemci.
560M:
Core i5-560M sadece 3MB L3 belleğe (i7-620M ile kıyaslanıldığında) sahip olup 2.67 – 3.2GHz (Turbo modunda) saat hızına sahip. Hyperthreading sayesinde 4 komut eş zamanlı olarak işlenebilmekte. Pakete dahili grafik kartı (GMA HD) ve DDR3 bellek kontrolörüde eklenmiş.
Intel Core i7:
620M: Core i7-620M 2010 yılı ilk çeyreğinde tanıtıldığında laptoplar için en hızlı işlemci olarak karşımıza çıktı. 620M, 2.66 and 3.33 GHz aralığındaki saat hızına Turbo modu ile ulaşabilmekte. Hyperthreading sayesinde 4 komut eş zamanlı işlenebilmekte. Pakete Intel tarafından ayrıca GPU (GMA HD) ve bir bellek kontrolörü eklenmiş. Bu yüzden 35 Wattlık güç tüketimi tüm paket için iyi sayılabilir.
Intel Core i3:
330M: Core i3-330, 350M’e göre saat hızı düşürülmüş bir işlemci, saat hızı 2.13 GHz olmakla beraber Turbo Boost özelliğine sahip değil. Hyperthreading sayesinde 4 komut eş zamanlı işlenebilmekte. Dahili GMA HD 3150 ve DDR3 bellek kontrolörüde dahil edilmiş.
