Toshiba's Portege Z10t offers plenty of performance in a slim and very light form factor. It's a hybrid Ultrabook that ships with a keyboard dock, and as far as hybrid docks go, it's one of the better ones. The Portégé Z10t is a competent enough hybrid laptop/tablet device, although Toshiba has missed an opportunity to extend the battery life of the system by adding a second battery, however small, into the keyboard dock. As it stands, the battery life of just five hours is not good enough for a full working day, which hampers the effectiveness of such a lightweight and portable system that is clearly intended for mobile use.

As I said in the opener, I’m not convinced the world really needs laptops with detachable displays. If you really want a notebook that can behave like a tablet, I think Lenovo has a better idea in its Yoga 2 Pro. Lenovo’s machine, on the other hand, doesn’t have an active digitizer or pen. In the end, Toshiba’s Portege Z10t is the best detachable I’ve seen, and anyone who’s sold on the detachable concept will dig it.

Toshiba Portege Z10t is a 2-in-1 clearly targeting the business user who wants to have a work machine which also works as a tablet. The 11.6-inch screen size is definitely smaller for those whose main work involves working with spreadsheets, but for others dealing primarily with word documents or emails, the Z10t is a good choice. The performance is good, the touchscreen is quite responsive, audio isn’t the best. But the price point of Rs 98,000 is definitely on the steeper side considering there are a lot of options in that price range.
