The T235D has the same great looks, industry leading keyboard, and solid performance of the T235 for a little less coin, while offering better graphics performance. However, unless the price delta between the two configurations grows larger than $20 to $30, we recommend the Intel-powered T235 for its longer battery life, better wireless performance, and faster transfer speeds.

You're not going to have a great gaming experience on the T235D, but for everything else it works well and the price is right. It's easy to find laptops that are significantly faster, but such laptops cost more and generally fall short in the mobility areas of battery life and size.

The AMD-powered Satellite T235D-S1345 offers somewhat better graphics performance and is $20 to $30 cheaper, but its lesser battery life, weaker wireless scores, and slower storage speeds aren't worth the miniscule savings. When it comes to ultraportable 13-inch notebooks, you won't find a more attractive system anywhere near this price range.

The processor performance of the Toshiba T235 is right in line with what you'd expect from Intel's Ultra-Low Voltage processors, but the graphics processor easily outclasses the Intel GMA 4500 found in Core 2 Duo based CULV laptops. Overall, the performance benchmarks make it very clear that Nile is a huge stride forward for AMD. My only worry with Nile is Intel’s CULV 2010 platform, which uses Core i3 and i5 processors instead of Core 2 Duos. AMD has consistently been just one step behind Intel over the last few years, and Nile may share this fate. Nile’s success will ultimately come down to price and availability. The current crop of Intel CULV 2010 based laptops is hard to find and more expensive at the moment, making them less attractive than they should be, but that could change.
