Toshiba tried to offer a unique hybrid laptop experience with the Satellite U925t but it just has a few too many small faults or just doesn't quite compare for price and features against most of the other hybrids available. About the best thing going for it is the fast boot times and data loads from its solid state drive. Beyond this, it has less resolution, lower running times, more noise and a keyboard and trackpad that just aren't as good as its competition.

You can use it as a tablet or as a laptop, but it's designed primarily with the tablet form factor in mind, and the screen is always exposed in an out-facing position to reinforce this usage model. As such, the U920T is one of the first hybrids we've seen to move away from the folding clamshell design.

The Toshiba Satellite U920T is a very likable convertible Ultrabook, although it took me a while to realise why. The reason, I'd say, is that it doesn't come across as some toy-like novelty item – it errs more on the sensible side. Even so, I still want to tilt the screen forward at times and its fold flat and slide convertible mechanism must be obeyed, which can be a little bothersome for speedy getaways. Still, this Ultrabook feels reassuringly solid and has a battery life that should get you through the day. Some will bemoan the lack of a full HD screen though, which leads to the biggest worry: the price. It's something that dogs all convertible Ultrabooks and the state of the premium portable PC market.

It offers decent connectivity, an average typing experience, good enough performance, and surprisingly impressive speakers. To keep the Toshiba Satellite U920t price lower than most rivals, Toshiba has been forced to cut a few corners: the screen resolution is not Full HD, it ‘only’ offers five-point touch, and there’s no pressure-sensitive stylus support. However, better battery life than most non-Atom hybrids we’ve tested means it’s still an attractive option.

It’s too heavy and cumbersome to function well as a tablet, and although general build, usability and performance are all perfectly acceptable, the screen quality and battery life simply aren’t good enough for a machine costing the best part of £1,000. If you’re absolutely desperate to buy a Windows 8 hybrid right now, we’d go for the VAIO: it has a superior screen and a more attractive design, is much lighter and has longer battery life – plus, if the price is too high, you can always opt for a cheaper configuration. Our advice, though, is to hold onto your cash until something more compelling arrives. Either that or buy a proper laptop or tablet instead.

It’s a well-built and attractive device with smooth and assured sliding action, and offers decent connectivity. To keep its price lower than most rivals a few corners have been cut: the screen resolution is not Full HD, it ‘only’ offers five-point touch, and there’s no pressure-sensitive stylus support. Hybrids are perhaps not as popular as one might think. The best-of-all-worlds selling point has been hammered somewhat by consumers' reception of Windows 8. Toshiba’s take on the convertible tablet/ultrabook uses a very similar sliding mechanism to Sony’s Duo 11, with the screen sliding upwards and then away from the keyboard. Toshiba has packed in a few added extras that help to justify the slightly higher price here, namely a large SSD and GPS. Combined with a decent screen and excellent hinge, the U920t is a rather compelling convertible.

With the arrival of Windows 8, we have also seen the arrival of more hybrid-style laptops—portables that can take advantage of Windows 8's touch capabilities without sacrificing the productivity enabled by the traditional clamshell-style laptop with built-in keyboard. For everyone else, the Satellite is a study in compromises. For the price, you could buy a thinner, lighter laptop with a similarly sized display. The overall design of this laptop shows a lot of promise. The hinge design seems like a really good idea. Çok seçici olmayan oyunlar akıcı olarak oynanabilir. Ama düşük çözünürlüğe ve dolayısıyla düşük detaylara hazır olun. Yine de bu kartlar ofis ve video görüntüleme (HD Videolar içinde uygun olduğu söylenebilir) konularında yeterli performansı veriyor.
