There's a lot to like about Acer's Chromebook 715; a snappy processor, a lovely keypad - with a dedicated number pad - and premium-ish extras such as the fingerprint sensor. Then again, the screen is absolutely woeful and you should expect more from an £899 laptop - £17 more gets you an Acer Travelmate X5 and a much brighter, richer display.

Acer has a winner on its hands. The Chromebook 715 delivers strong performance, thanks to its Intel Core i5 processor. I really like the fingerprint sensor, and I appreciate the inclusion of a number pad. And lasting over 10 hours on our battery test is no small feat. The notebook's MIL-SPEC-tested aluminum chassis looks premium and can take a minor beating.

Acer offers alternative configurations with a slightly less powerful Intel CPU and 8GB of memory rather than 16GB at a significant savings. In value terms, that makes much more sense. But at this price point, there are a lot of both gorgeous and capable machines available and it’s hard to imagine choosing this Acer over all of them. That said, Acer offers alternative configurations with a slightly less powerful Intel CPU and 8GB of memory rather than 16GB at a significant savings. In value terms, that makes much more sense. We’d steer you in that direction if the Acer Chromebook 715 is on your shopping list.
