HP has done well with the TouchSmart TM2 tablet. It's a good compromise between usability and exceptional battery life, even if its performance could have been better.

EN→TR Archive.org versionThere are surely some things we'd change about the HP TouchSmart tm2 – we'd remove the battery bump, slim down the entire chassis, put in a normal touchpad, and speed up the Touchsmart software – but for an $899 starting price and now with its Core i3 upgrade, it's actually one of the better convertible laptops for students or just those that just want to reach out and touch a screen. Of course, slate-like tablets are the new thing, and some will opt to pick up an iPad and then a cheap laptop to get their computing fill, but there's still something appealing about having an all-in-one device that can do it all. We really just wish the touch interface did its thing a bit more briskly.

With an aluminium casing and all-rounder configuration, it has been designed to handle a variety of tasks: photo, video, design, office work. HP’s TouchSmart tm2 is a nice, well put together machine. We like its battery life, performance levels and the touchscreen which is pleasant to use. Overall the finish and usage is a success. It’s just a shame that it isn’t lighter, slimmer and quieter.

EN→TR Archive.org versionEven if the iPad didn’t exist, we wouldn’t recommend the HP TouchSmart tm2. Its touchpad is one of the worst we’ve used. But the fact that Apple’s slate is now available to the masses makes this convertible an even tougher sell. Consumers who know better will no longer tolerate a tablet that doesn’t change screen orientation automatically based on how you’re holding the device, and they’ll scratch their heads wondering why it takes so long for TouchSmart’s apps to load when there’s a Core i3 processor under the hood. And although we give HP credit for trying to build on top of Windows 7, the OS simply can’t compete with the iPad when it comes to touch-enabled apps. We still like the idea of a tablet with a full-size keyboard--and see the merit of stylus-based input for some--but this product disappoints.

It is a great student laptop in many ways: it offers an easy way to take class notes via the pen input, battery life is very good, the design is attractive and the aluminum construction makes it durable yet not too heavy to be portable. The main drawbacks to the tm2t is that it uses a low voltage processor, so it’s not the fastest PC out there, and some of the software drivers such as the touchpad and touchscreen are buggy and could do with some tweaking out of the box.

Unfortunately, this is not yet the case. Here in the UK at least, the only easily available, sub-£1,000 options for a convertible tablet are the Packard Bell Butterfly Touch and Acer Aspire 1825 – and of course HP's TouchSmart tm2, which we're looking at today.

Unless you're dead set on owning a swivelling, convertible machine, we'd recommend you opt for a more powerful laptop, such as the cheap, 17.3-inch Samsung R730, which will better serve your media needs. On the other hand, if you're sure you want a tablet, the tm2-1010ea probably isn't what you're looking for, because it's fairly heavy and the touchscreen interface is slightly too clunky.

EN→TR Archive.org versionYes I know it’s been a long time since I have reviewed any HP PC’s but once a company changes agencies it often takes a long time to get involved again. It is a little ‘curates egg’ like and I think you would definitely want to try it before you buy as the back heavy nature of the unit could be a problem for some, it has to back heavy to accommodate the twist screen action of it. The final drawback is the price.

EN→TR Archive.org versionWith a price of roughly $900, the HP TouchSmart tm2-2050us is a very affordable option for those looking at an ultraportable laptop that can also double as a tablet PC. Performance is solid thanks to the new Core i3 ultra-low voltage processor and it has a surprisingly larger hard drive. It isn't without its faults though including a touchscreen that is very glossy that can be difficult to see in certain light and a battery pack that adds a bit too much bulk.

HP: Daha çok HP adı ile bilinen Hewlett-Packard şirketi 1935 yılında kurulan, merkezi Kaliforniya ABD olan bir teknoloji şirketi. HP özellikle veri depolama, network ürünleri, yazılım ve diğer servisler konusunda uzmanlaşmış durumda. Büyük ürün segmentlerinin içinde kişisel bilgisayarlar, serverlar, yazıcılar ve diğer görselleştirmeye yönelik cihazlar bulunmakta. Diğer ürünler ise: elektronik test ekipmanları ve sistemleri, medical elektronik ekipmanlar, kimyasal analizler için bileşenler ve enstrümanlar olarak sıralanabilir. HP 2006 yılında 91.7 milyar dolarlık geliri ile kendini dünyanın en büyük teknoloji üreticisi olarak duyurdu. 2007 yılında da 104 milyar dolarlık geliri ile 100 milyar dolar gelir seviyesini aşan ilk IT firması olarak adından söz ettirdi. 2007 yılında (IDC tarafından yapılan araştırmaya göre) ki Pazar payları: HP 18.9 %, Dell 16.4 %, Acer 9.9 %, Lenovo 7.5 %, Apple 5.7 %
Sadece eski oyunlar bu grafik kartları ile akıcı bir şekilde (eğer yüksek bir sistem gereksinimi duymuyorlarsa) oynanabilir. Bu kategorideki paylaşımlı grafik çekirdekleri az ısınma ve daha uzun batarya ömrü gibi avantajlara sahip. Ofis, internet, şekil düzenleme ve video editleme gibi işlemler herhangi bir kısıtlama olmadan bu grafik kartları ile yapılabilir.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4550: HD4550, HD 4530’un saat hızı yükseltilmiş versiyonu ve bu yüzden giriş seviyesinde bir kart. Aynı saat hızında olmakla beraber HD5430 ile yeri değiştirildi.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: GM45 çipsetine (Montevina) kurulmuş, onboard (paylaşımlı) grafik kartı. 2 adet daha fazla shadera sahip olması ve daha yüksek saat hızından ötürü GMA X3100 den oldukça hızlı. Yinede oyuncular için (DirectX 10 oyunları oynanamaz, oynansa bile çok düşük detaylarda) önerilebilir olduğu söylenemez. Dahili video işlemcisi, düşük hızlı işlemcilere HD video decode (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2) işlemleri sırasında yardımcı olarak Blu-Ray medyaların akıcı şekilde oynatılmasını sağlıyor.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5450: DirectX 11 uyumlu HD 4570 ile benzer saat hızına sahip ama daha düşük güç tüketen giriş seviyesi grafik kartı.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics:

Intel Core 2 Duo: Daha fazla tüketime ihtiyaç duymayan ve daha uzun aktarım hatlarına sahip Core Duo ve Core Solo işlemcilerin yeni nesli. Core Duo dizanynına ek olarak 4. bir decoder, güçlendirilmiş SSE unitesi ve ek Aritmetik mantık ünitesi ( ALU ) mevcut.
Core 2 Duo Laptop işlemcileri masa üstü işlemcilerle benzer. Sadece daha düşük voltaj ile çalışmakta (0.95 Volt - 1188 Volt) ve daha düşük frontside bus saat hızına sahip (1066 MHz karşı 667 MHz). Aynı hıza sahip olsalarda laptop Core 2 Duo işlemcileri masa üstü versiyonlarına oranla daha düşük frontside bus ve yavaş hard disklerinden ötürü 20 - 25% daha yavaş.
SU7300: 10 Watt gibi düşük bir güç tüketimine sahip düşük saat hızlı işlemci.
Intel Pentium Dual Core: Yonah çekirdeği olmasına rağmen, Pentium adının dönüşü oldu. Aslında çok iyi bir güç tüketimi oranıyla 2 çekirdekli bir işlemcinin uyumundan oluşmakta.
SU4100: Küçük subnotebooklarda kullanılan, giriş seviyesi işlemci. Pentium adındna ötürü işlemci Core 2 Duo işlemcilere kıyasla daha az güç tasarrufu modlarına sahip olabilir.
Intel Pentium:
U5400: Giriş seviyesi çift çekirdekli Arrandale serisi işlemci. Turbo Boost, Hyperthreadıng, Sanallaştırma ve AES desteği bulunmamakta. Düşük saat hızından ötürü performans sadece yüksek işlem gücü gerektirmeyen uygulamalar için yeterli.
Intel Core i3:
330UM: Core i3-330UM, Turbo Boost ve AES fonksiyonlarına sahip olmayan, güç tasarruflu ultra düşük voltaja sahip laptop işlemcisi. Hyperthreading sayesinde 4 komut eş zamanlı işlenebilmekte. Dahili grafik kartı (166-500 MHz Intel HD grafik kartı) ve DDR3-800 bellek kontrolörüde pakete dahil edilmiş.
380UM:
Core i3-380M, TurboBoost ve AES fonksiyonlarından (i5 ve i7 UM işlemcilerle kıyaslanıldığında) yoksun, güç tasarruflu laptop işlemcisi. HyperThreading sayesind 4 komut eş zamanlı olarak işlenebilmekte. Dahili grafik kartı (166-500MHz IntelHD graphics) ve DDR3-800 bellek kontrolörü de pakete dahil edilmiş.
