Lenovo Yoga 700 Review - Good Things Can Come Cheap

Ultrabooks and 2-in1s have always been more of a niche in the notebook market. While subsequent generations have made you give up less and less for the thin-and-light chassis, there are still some trade-offs. Traditionally the largest trade-off for these more portable designs has been cost. In the past, what we have considered "good" 2-in1s have come in at around $1200. With the Lenovo Yoga 700, it is refreshing to see a solid performing machine come in at under $900. You might sacrifice a bit of battery life, but for most users I would highly recommend the Lenovo Yoga 700.

The 14.1in Lenovo Yoga 700 is a rather frustrating device. Its build quality and high performance levels make it a very capable system to take on the road, but other aspects like its screen and battery life let it down. We'd expect better at this price, but that's not to say it's necessarily a bad choice. It's still a very versatile laptop for everyday use, and provides just as much speed as more expensive ultraportables. However, when you can get the equally convertible Toshiba Satellite Radius 15 for a lot less, which has a superior display and longer battery life, it becomes harder to justify choosing the Yoga. If you need the extra horsepower, the Yoga 700 will get the job done, for if you'd rather save some money, the Toshiba is a much better buy.

One word of caution, though, because the price only includes a 128GB SSD. In my experience, that isn’t enough for a laptop that’s going to have any serious use. It limits how many “big” programs (think Adobe and Microsoft in particular) you can install, and leaves little space for media-hungry files such as videos and photo dumps. In fact, once you take into account Lenovo’s hidden recovery partition, there’s only 98GB of usable space to start with anyway.

As a mid-range convertible, the Yoga 700 is still a bit of a disappointment. It's delightfully portable, but its display doesn't do justice to its Full HD resolution and the keyboard also leaves a lot to be desired. The 700 is far from bad, but the search for a compelling mid-range, ultra-portable convertible continues. Right now, the 11.6in Acer Aspire Switch 11V has the edge over this in many areas, but is itself let down by limited battery life. If you're not fussy about your keyboard, or colour accuracy on your display, then this is probably the strongest contender in a weak field. A strong alternative for those wanting a tablet-laptop hybrid is the Microsoft Surface 3 with a Surface Type Cover.

The Lenovo Yoga 710 14 is a first-class convertible notebook. We have no qualms recommending it if you’re in the market for a touch-screen notebook that could be used as a tablet. Alas, like most convertibles we’ve reviewed, the Yoga 710 14 is still too heavy and bulky to be used as a dedicated tablet replacement. Its 3.4 pound, 0.7-inch thick chassis is more than acceptable for a 14-inch notebook, however. The chassis is actually the size of a 13.3-inch notebook, since the Yoga’s display is almost borderless. It’s physically smaller and a half-pound lighter than the competing Dell Inspiron 13 7000 convertible, despite the fact the Dell houses a smaller 13.3-inch screen. That’s an impressive feat.

Lenovo: Lenovo grubu Çinin en büyük ve dünyanın 4. en büyük kişisel bilgisayar üreticisi. Lenovo, masaüstü, laptop, server, mobil telefon ürünleri ve çeşitli görselleştirme ekipmanları üretmekte. Lenovo aynı zamanda teknoloji entegrasyonları konusunda danışmanlık hizmetleri vermekte. Yönetim kurulları Çin ve ABD’de bulunmakta. Hong Kong da anonim şirketi olarak faaliyet göstermekte. 1984 yılında şirket Çinin Yeni Bilimler akademisi tarafından kuruldu. Firma aslında yabancı markalar için dağıtıcı olarak işe başladı. 1990 yılında ise Lenovo kendi PC’leri üretmeye başladı ve 1997 yılında Çinde lider konuma yükseldi. 2004 yılında Lenovo IBM’in PC business kısmını 1.25 milyar dolara satın aldı. 2007 yılında (IDC tarafından yapılan araştırmaya göre) ki Pazar payları: HP 18.9 %, Dell 16.4 %, Acer 9.9 %, Lenovo 7.5 %, Apple 5.7 %

Lenovo İnceleme

Oyun oynamak isteyen kullanıcılar için en son seçenek. Yeni oyunlar bu kartlarda çalışacaktır, ama sadece düşük detaylar ve orta çözünürlükte.

Intel HD Graphics 520:

NVIDIA GeForce 940MX: Maxwell mimarisi tabanlı orta sınıf laptop grafik kartı. Eski 940M ile kıyaslandığında MX modeli GDDR5 desteği ve belki biraz yüksek saat hızı ile geliyor.

NVIDIA GeForce 940M:

Çok seçici olmayan oyunlar akıcı olarak oynanabilir. Ama düşük çözünürlüğe ve dolayısıyla düşük detaylara hazır olun. Yine de bu kartlar ofis ve video görüntüleme (HD Videolar içinde uygun olduğu söylenebilir) konularında yeterli performansı veriyor.
