Thanks to a couple of reasonably primo parts, the Acer Aspire 8930 is a high-octane portable that's a solid choice for mobility minded gamers. And with a price tag under two grand, the Acer Aspire 8930 is a desktop replacement laptop won't blow your budget. The Acer Aspire 8930 offers a great combination of price and purpose. Our only reservations relate to our review model's lack of a Blu-ray drive (since the machine has a Full HD display but its video card won't run games at that resolution, you'll want something to show the screen off), as well as to the likelihood that you'll need to buy a new laptop bag to transport this 18.4in monster.

The Aspire 8930 is a neat little home-entertainment laptop with a great screen but poor surround speakers. The Acer Aspire 8930 offers a great combination of price and purpose. My only reservations relate to our review model's lack of a Blu-ray drive (since the machine has a Full HD display but its video card won't run games at that resolution, you'll want something to show the screen off), as well as to the likelihood that you'll need to buy a new laptop bag to transport this 18.4-inch monster.

The Aspire 8930G continues the traditions of the previous 8920 with a few minor updates. Performnce is still quite strong thanks to the high end Core 2 Duo processor and 4GB of DDR3 memory. Acer has improved the graphics processor to a higher end GeForce 9700M model that is better able to support the very high resolution 18.4-inch display and an eSATA port for use with high speed external storage. On the downside, the Blu-ray drive has been removed from most models making it a little less useful for high definition video and they still don't have a FireWire port.

Having had our fun with all four units, we're hard pressed to actually come up with a clear winner. It's obvious that all four units have a different take on what an 18.4-inch desktop replacement should be and have their own strengths, but it's also obvious they all agree that size is key here. The Acer Aspire Gemstone Blue 8930G here comes out tops in our books for its value and performance, but we didn't quite like its fingerprint magnet surface and glossy screen.

Naysayers will argue that the $1,699 Acer Aspire 8930G is an incremental upgrade over the 8920G, but when a formula works very well, there isn’t much need for a full-scale change. The system’s powerful processor, improved graphics muscle, and striking design makes it one of the best desktop replacements around.

Yorum

NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GT: 8700M GT serisinin yeni versiyonu ve teknik olarak 9600M GT’nin saat hızı arttırılmış hali. Geliştirilmiş video motoru sayesinde HD videoların (PureVideo HD – VP2) decoding işlemi, HybridPower, Cuda, PhysX gibi işlemleri ve teknolojileri desteklemekte.

Çok seçici olmayan oyunlar akıcı olarak oynanabilir. Ama düşük çözünürlüğe ve dolayısıyla düşük detaylara hazır olun. Yine de bu kartlar ofis ve video görüntüleme (HD Videolar içinde uygun olduğu söylenebilir) konularında yeterli performansı veriyor.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Daha fazla tüketime ihtiyaç duymayan ve daha uzun aktarım hatlarına sahip Core Duo ve Core Solo işlemcilerin yeni nesli. Core Duo dizanynına ek olarak 4. bir decoder, güçlendirilmiş SSE unitesi ve ek Aritmetik mantık ünitesi ( ALU ) mevcut.

Core 2 Duo Laptop işlemcileri masa üstü işlemcilerle benzer. Sadece daha düşük voltaj ile çalışmakta (0.95 Volt - 1188 Volt) ve daha düşük frontside bus saat hızına sahip (1066 MHz karşı 667 MHz).
