You get the performance, portability and battery life you would normally expect from a £1,000+ machine, and the fact that Acer has chosen to squeeze a larger screen into a frame not much bigger than that of a 13.3in laptop makes it really feel like you're getting the most for your cash.

The Swift 5 has almost none of the drawbacks a standard ultrabook would have. The build quality is good, the choice of materials give it a bit of a premium feel while the overall portability of the chassis is excellent. The input devices are a mixed bag for us, though, because the keyboard is slightly mushy and has short key travel. At least the touchpad compensates for the lacking keyboard.

If weight is an important factor in your buying decision, it will be really hard to beat the Swift 5. Keep in mind that battery life isn't great, so it won’t be easy to get through a full workday on a single charge unless you use this laptop very conservatively. The trackpad is a bit fiddly too, and there’s no SD card slot.

Honestly the only aspect of the Nitro 5 that gives me pause is longevity. Look at that Rise of the Tomb Raider benchmark again: The GTX 1650 struggles with a four-year-old game. You’re definitely not going to max out most of 2019’s biggest releases, and it’s only going to get worse from here. On the other hand, it’s about $800. Would I recommend saving up an extra $150 to $200 for Acer’s beefier Predator Helios 300, reviewed in July? Yes, absolutely. But if you simply can’t, or if you plan to buy a cheaper laptop and upgrade more often, then the Nitro 5 is a respectable entry-level machine. The build quality far surpasses what I’d expect from a laptop this cheap, and the internals are “good enough,” for what that’s worth.

Acer Swift 5 SF514-54T has its fair share of pros and cons. The cons include wobbling display and the constricted keyboard. On the positive side is the fast processor, long battery life, lightweight adding to the portability and sleek design. Clearly, there are more points on the right side than the wrong side. But then comes the price of the laptop - a hefty price tag of Rs 97,990. Not many in India may be willing to spend this much amount given the price-conscious mindset. And those who may be willing could possibly look for other choices like the Apple MacBook Air -- that is if they want to switch from Windows to Mac.

Acer Swift 5 review: Green and gold laptops are my new favorite

Most of my complaints here are super-minor. One is that there's no IR camera, and while that's something that I'll always bring up, it's also something that we really only use once per session unless apps are using it for authentication. The other is that I'd like audio to be better, and that's probably my only real issue.

The Swift was a little lighter though, so could be a better option for portability, though this means less cooling capacity, so less performance when under heavy load. So these are a couple of things that I like about the Swift 5 so far. Compared with my current Swift 3 laptop, I would say that the former is a pretty big improvement especially for the Antimicrobial display which is also a touchscreen with Corning® Gorilla® Glass. In terms of price tags, the 8GB variant is RM3999 whereas the 16GB variant is RM4999.

However, the ASUS doesn’t perform quite as well, runs noisier and warmer, and has a smaller 512GB SSD. It’s also chunkier and heavier. The ZenBook is great if you are on a tight budget, but the Swift 5's premium is well justified. Furthermore, Acer offers a more affordable variant that comes with a Core i5-1240P processor but still with 16GB of memory and 1TB SSD for S$2,198. Ultimately, however, both the Acer and ASUS are excellent notebooks that cater to slightly different users. That said, this is easily the best Swift 5 that Acer has made yet and one of the most bang for buck ultraportable notebooks you can buy.

Acer made a complete redesign of this laptop. From the grounds up. It has changed the appearance of the Swift 5, as well as the material it uses. By swapping magnesium for aluminum, the brand manages to cut costs, and make the building process faster and more precise thanks to the CNC technology. This results in a pretty strong chassis. However, the lid pops in a weird way when you try to twist it. On the bright side, there is a Full HD Web camera with a bunch of software enhancements. Acer Swift 5 (SF514-56T)’s WQXGA IPS display is touch-enabled and has a Corning Gorilla Glass cover with Antimicrobial treatment. In addition, it features comfortable viewing angles, a very high maximum brightness, and a very good contrast ratio. We measured a full sRGB color coverage and didn’t detect PWM use across the entire brightness range.
