If you’re a graphics designer or video editor, the Envy 15 is more powerful than a 15-inch MacBook Pro, but you’ll probably prefer the Apple machine’s longer endurance and more comfortable keyboard and touchpad. And if you want to play games, the ASUS G51J, which is $300 less expensive, will be more to your liking. Overall, the Envy 15 has the guts to be a MacBook killer, but we’d like to see HP provide longer battery life—without adding 2 pounds of weight—and cooler temperatures.

An Intel Mobile Core i7 processor, 6GB of DDR3 memory, and midrange ATI graphics card are parts that you would find in an extremely large media center or gaming rig—not in a 15.6-inch aluminum frame that bears a strong resemblance to the Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch (SD Slot). Every component that powers the Envy 15 is what performance dreams are made of, but heat, unfortunately, is an aggravating side effect.

A big brother to HP's 13-inch Envy 13, this upscale 15-inch model crams more computing power into a midsize laptop than anyone outside of Alienware's m15x. There's no denying the impulsive appeal of the Envy 15: it's an innovative, attractive and incredibly powerful machine. Unfortunately, though, it seems like a work in progress. Hopefully HP will nail the formula if and when it revisits the concept.

Though I purchased the Envy for review purposes, I've decided to keep it as my main Windows machine. It's a fast and capable gamer and Photoshop machine that can run for 5 hours on AC power-- sweet. And I like the aluminum casing, sturdy build and easily accessible internals too.

Unfortunately, while the components in the HP Envy 15 are totally suitable for a computer buyer this year, the screen is not, and HP really lets down the entire package with this disaster of a display. We’re sure the company will argue with us on this one, but when you struggle to find a decent viewing angle, and when the clarity and definition is just plain horrible, and the brightness and contrast both leave something to be desired, you have to wonder what exactly the engineers were thinking, and perhaps whether their collective arms were twisted by someone in the finance division. And that’s really how the HP Envy 15 feels, because it’s like the company has produced something that could be decent if not for that horrible antiquated screen.

720QM: Core i7-720QM, 2009 yılı içerisinde karşımıza Core i7 Quad çekirdeğin en yavaş üyesi olarak karşımıza çıkıyor. 1.6 ile 2.8 GHz aralığındaki saat hızı ile yavaş bir 4 çekirdekli işlemci olmakla beraber hızlı bir tek çekirdekli işlemci olmanın özelliklerinin avantajlarına sahip. Daha hızlı Core i7 işlemcilerle kıyaslandığında 720QM sadece 6MB L3 Cache kapasitesine sahip.
2670QM:
2.2 - 3.1GHz saat hızı aralığına sahip, Sandy Bridge mimarili ve dahili grafik kartı ile çift kanallı DDR3 bellek kontrolörüne sahip quad-core işlemci.
